New E class Coupe price list (in swiss)

I`ve been speaking to MB head office about a test drive, as always been re-directed to the dealership, no phonecall so i rang them to see when the e-class was landing, he said sometime in august and test drive will be scheduled for 20 minutes, ( 40 grand car after speccing it up) no chance off getting it alot longer "nope he replied" okay then how about discount in current climates "nope not a penny". however you can see give it a year or so and stock sat around ( reminds me of the C-class sport at launch) and they will be giving it away and based on the E class should mean depreciation will be hit hard I guess.

This is perfectly normal. To begin with dealers will get one or two cars to show at launch. And hundreds wanting to drive them. There will be a waiting list for a while and obviously no discounts.

Soon after there will be demonstrators, on loan for longer periods, and discounts eventually.

I would hope so too. Its a less practical car than a 204 (and not as good looking either) that its based on, and costs more than the car "up" the 212.

Plenty of profit margin to see MB through the credit crunch...

Full specs are on MB site.
This appears to be a smashing car(imho).
The sport model has loads as standard. The 350 CGI is surprisingly economical(relatively) with same tax bands as my current cars , yet really good performance figures. It has better performance than the old 350, combined with better economy/emissions than the old 280! It might be worth waiting to see if the 250CGI makes it to UK, but It would be nice to get a V6.
Also good to see they have put in a pano roof.
I will be seriously tempted in a few mths!

Who read this months "CAR" magazine review of the new E class coupe.

Why do MB base this supposed C class and call it an E. Why couldn't they have actually built the E class coupe on the 212 platform rather than the 204 base. The CL is 221 based, so why can't the E coupe actually be based on the E class.

This car makes the 212 seem like a really good deal, and a 204 like the steal of the century.

I thought that one of the reasons for discontinuing the CLK and introducing the E Class Coupe is that the latter was to be based on the E Class saloon.

I agree that the new coupe has the same wheelbase as the W204 but not the same front and rear track width. What I don't know is how different the W212 platform is from the W204.

Not as different as you'd like to think. The 204 is a very good platform it must be said and in terms of set up can rival the E90 platform (BMWs) to make a genuine drivers car. I just don't like the idea of charging more for "less". Hence I've never "got" the idea of more expensive coupes that are related to cheaper saloons and estates. A 3rd car thats the same should cost less than a 5dr one. Simple

the new e class coupe and saloon dash and interior look way too clinical and serious UGLY!

I agree. The CLS interior is way better - real design classic IMHO!

.
No. Sadly it is to be based on the new C class, but will pretend to be an E class. Great shame. The old E class convertible was a wonderful car and many value the extra room the E class can give.

But I thought you'd just ordered one

The interior is one part of the car. Ugly as hell, but the exterior, though radical, is not too bad on the coupe, some lines are actually very sexy, whilst the saloon is a bit too boxy, but the coupe lines really resemble a baby bentley gt coupe...

i really think the interiors of most of the new cars are totally disgusting, but if this is the current availability, then u have to also work with what they throw to ya!

I saw a transporter full of new E Class coupe's on the M25 yesterday so they should be hitting the dealers soon.

Got a phone call from Mercedes Benz.

They've put me on the list for a test drive of an E350cdi saloon (sport) and E350cdi coupe (sport).

They aren't released until june 11th they say so i'll be booked in after that date.

I chose Hughes of Beaconsfield as we've just had a good experience buying a nearly new E280cdi sport from one of their salesmen, Brian Andrews.

Its a bit of a trek but I wouldn't give another penny to JCT600 Mercedes Benz of Sheffield.

Can't wait now!

Regards,

KJ

Had a look at a pair of these at the weekend...

-Very nice car- handsome & I felt the interior was nice, however it was a little dark & gloomy in the basement of the garage & the cars I saw had a lot of extras, so hard to get a true feel. Obviously, I was not allowed a test drive yet!
While I like the CLK, I think the 'e' is progress. Yes it is expensive, but at least a lot of options are now standard (such as parktronic, folding mirrors, heated seats & -on the Sport- bixenons & LED rear lights)

(just imho...)

I knew I had read somewhere that the E Class coupe was based on the E platform. The link below is from Autocar.

Autocar - Merc E-class Coupe revealed

Well I think Autocar are wrong. Two reasons: - 1. all other mags I've read have said it is based on the C class platform
2. Just go to the MB website and check the dimensions. The E class saloon is about a foot longer than the coupe! Now check the all important wheelbase measurements and you will see that the new E saloon has a wheelbase of 2874mm; the current C class has a wheelbase of 2760mm. And what is the new coupe? Exactly 2760 -the same as the C class. I think you will also find that the early MB press releases said clearly that it was based on the C class platform.

I did acknowledge in Post #26 that the wheelbase of the coupe was the same as the C Class. It was just that today I found the article that made me make that post in the first place.

C/E class based

Had a quick shufty at the new E class saloon and the "E" Coupe side by side today and the Coupe is a noticeably smaller car. ;) From my observations the new coupe is definitely based on the C class platform. Having said this the new coupe may well contain a much higher proportion of the new E class saloon advanced components/systems:thumb: than the previous CLK which was really a well trimmed 2 door W203 C class. It might be fair then to more accurately describe it a W204 C class based car with E class equipment??
2010 Mercedes E-Class Coupe is based on W204 C-Class Platform - Worldcarfans

I think this weekend is the "big release" so get down to your local MB dealer and judge for yourself.
