C180K 1.8 SE 05 plate
Hi all,

I actually joined the MBClub last year when I was considering buying the Merc I’ve got now, I found it quite a useful source of information and advice.

Anyway, I did end up buying the car I was looking at, namely;

05 plate, C180K coupe, 80k miles, two previous owners, panoramic roof, MOT April 2016, £3k.

Love it. Great car. Always wanted a Mercedes, but (to sort of quote Top Gun), “my brain was writing cheques my bank account couldn’t cash”. Anyway, opted for this 11 year old lady as a compromise, and was glad I did…..until recently that is….

Just failed it’s MOT on emissions.
I’m going to post a separate thread on this, but unfortunately it’s still not resolved and the cost is ramping up!

I’m hoping it will be back on the road shortly as nothing else was a problem on the MOT, just those high emissions.

Also, as a note, since I’ve had it I’ve installed a carcam (using a fuse piggyback from the rear fuse box to turn on/off on ignition), and also put in the cable for the Aux In connection (fortunately I had the connector already there in the passenger footwell, so wasn’t a big job, just routing a 3.5mm jack cable round to the centre console). I then used this to attach a bluetooth ‘Himbox’, so I can stream music and take calls through my mobile to the audio system.

Thanks, and hello once again,

Andy

Hey Andy,
Can you remember exactly what you bought for your car to deal with the aux cable? I have the same year and model of coupe, and want BT, but for music......is the cable on passenger side footwell??
Thanks

Welcome, hope the emissions problem is not too expensive to sort out

Hi. I can't remember exactly no, but this may help ;

Possible AUX input in '05 sound system, any news/info? - MBWorld.org Forums

I've still got the car and apologies but I don't want to rip up the footwell to check what I did. The first thing you need to do though is check if you have the connector in the footwell. Then, you may have to buy the adapter in the link above. Splice in a 3.5mm female cable and route it up the door frame, into and route under the glove box.

I now have a 3.5mm female secreted into the left hand side of the centre console. Press and hold cdc on the radio switches to aux in.

I used to have a Himbox BT receiver, but I've recently swapped this for a Pure Highway 600. The audio processing on Bluetooth is a lot better.

Good luck!

Was 1200 in the end!
Had all sorts changed.
Final act was to reflash the ecu.
Been working fine for over 3 years now though!

Cheers, I appreciate your help, was out pottering about earlier and removed the sill and side panel of the dash, easy job, problem is all the sellers of the aux cables seem to be in Lithuania on eBay and not very cheap... must ring Mercedes on Monday for a quote.
Regards,
Arthur

Many thanks for the link, I can at least see that I have the aux active on the head unit, so it will work, thank goodness , a better outcome than I expected.
