New member unable to post in General section, first post in new members removed?

My post in the "intros" section was rather unceremoniously removed for no reason from what I can see (I didn't get any message about it either).

I just joined up because someone had posted about a sofa of all things that I have an interest in in the general / Off topic section. (Himolla furniture).

However, on joining I found I couldn't actually post in that thread, and so posted in the new member forum a note about why I joined. Which was promptly reported by @Dippo (they didn't give a reason), and deleted.

If anyone could explain what I've done wrong I'd appreciate it. I'm a veteran on several forums and I've never had quite this experience on joining a forum before...

I doubt it has anything to do with the fact you drive a Skoda :p, but this is a new platform and there's still some gremlins about from time to time! I'm sure an admin will come back to you later. :)

I reported it because your post said you were joining the forum to talk about furniture and gave a link to brand name. To me, that looked like an advert, so I reported it as such. I could have done it anonymously, but posted to say I had reported it to save others doing the same.

The decision to remove your post was taken by the mods.

I once drove a Superb; not one of my better decisions!

To clarify, you can talk about settees all you want here, but understand, your first post must have looked a bit like a spam post...

Seems a bit of misunderstanding. Welcome aboard. :)

Ah, it was perhaps a little hasty. The link naming was picked up by the forum software from the thread title; the link was to the thread on this very forum! :)

It refuses to die, what can I say. 225K miles on the old boat (it is a bad boat admittedly, as without remedial action there is more water inside it than outside...). I often eye up second hand Mercs via AutoDevotion who are local to me (Robinson's part-ex resale arm), just need to work out what the story is on diagnostics as I can do all that myself on the Skoda with my fully licensed VCDS.

I guess it must have for a member and a mod to think so.

The aptly named STAR is the Mercedes diagnostic equipment, but it's very spendy. I wouldn't avoid buying a Merc because you haven't got the diagnostics kit yourself, I've done several repairs on mine without needing diagnostic and on the one occasion I did, it wasn't that expensive from an independent specialist.

Have a look at the Forum Terms and Conditions, not too onerous and may help explain how it is set up and why?

Hopefully you will find it is a very good site overall with some extremely knowledgeable and helpful members :)

It's hard to give up not being dependent on others, but thanks for the pointer, I'll look into it.

Was there a particular bit which is obvious to you I was "in breach" of?

I would be a little bit wary of Auto-Devotion. I bought a (well) used Merc from them last year and found the MOT they gave it just a few miles (<15) before I collected it was rather dodgy with duff rear shocks and bent front droplinks. Just shy of a couple of Ks worth of tlc from a good indy, though has recovered the situation nicely. Unfortunately for me, AutoDevotion and/or Robinsons refused to contribute anything.

Thanks, that is always a risk with places that MOT their own to make a sale I guess. Some of their cars clearly haven't been looked after but every so often they get something in that looks OK.

Sounds like you are from Kings Lynn.
Close but no cigar. Live in (but am not from) Norwich. We have two Auto Devotion outlets to choose from here (posh eh, one for each cathedral).

I saw nothing wrong with your post since the link was to a thread about Himolla started by someone else on the forum.

Someone was a little quick in reporting your post. If the link had been to the Himolla website then the deletion would have been justified.

Spilt milk now anyhow, bought the sofa today. Looks great. Nice exit of quality German engineering :)

I agree and posted as much in that thread.
However, that too was removed along with the deemed spam post, not that it matters now.
