Driving and making love is not really that difficult. You just have to find a willing partner. LOL

Hello! No the thread is not dead, I have not bought a ford yet :o I’m still alive and still married, I thought I would let the dust settle as it were. I have just left it for now the reason is I do use the car everyday for work and I haven’t got a garage big enough for the Merc so I would get a bit wet at the moment:rolleyes: .

I have two weeks off soon so hopefully we will be able to try and sort it out or though I have seriously been considering selling it but prices of CE’s is depressing :(. Or I could buy another car and transfer my Carlsson kit, brakes and other bits over I don’t know yet. I took the bumper off last night so I can get that repainted. Once I get my GTI on the road I can use that but I don’t really want to drive it in all this rain…;)

Update!!

Ok time for an update, Well I’m back at work now after having a couple of weeks off they went really quickly…

The week before my time off I couldn’t drive the car because the oil leak got a lot worse so I left it until I had time off work, so last Tuesday I had the car booked in to sort the oil leak out. On Wednesday she was booked in for a rolling road to try and sort the running issue. However disaster struck Tuesday morning when I topped the car up with oil to get me to the garage I only got about half a mile when driving up the dual carriageway the car suddenly locked up skidded and ground to a halt!!

Luckily I was taking it easy at 40mph but still very nearly caused an accident. So I waited to be recovered the Police also turned up as I was in a bit of a dangerous position we managed to move the car another 100 yards or so just off the Dual carriageway So then the truck turned up and the wheels would not move this time the Diff is completely locked solid. The car is now at another garage waiting for the diff to be looked at, also check for any other potential damage…

Wow, it never rains for you Ady does it?

It sounds like the bearings have gone and allowed the crown wheel to jam.

It's worth remembering this was your original diff and will the parts from the replacement fit in this casing?

Tell me about it! That's the plan, is too use the internals from the other diff.

Rear wheels locking at 40mph is scary enough.

I suppose there are some parts we really must know the history/health/condition of if we are going to fit them used - tyres, brakes and I suppose any rotating mechanical items that could cause a lock wheel.

Try it in a front drive car...wow very entertaining..
Ford escort MkIV had a habit of knocking out the diff bearings. The first givaway sign is the speedo drops to zero as the gear disengages, if left long enough the diff locks....Hmm..

One of my staff had an entertaining stoppage when the cam belt went on his Pug 407. He was doing 50mph at the time and it locked the front wheels...Oops.

Bizzarley Peugeot insisted on rebuilding the engine. After eight returns to the garage they agreed to fit a new one.

Sorry to hear this Ady - horrible when things don't work out, you must have some amazing luck due soon.

Chin up

Would there be any warning signs or whining before failure ?

Years ago when I was student I had a beat up old BMW which had always had a stiff gear change. After a couple of years it got very noisy. There where no signs of any leaks so I just drove on being young and stupid. Turned out there was not a drop of oil in the box when the drain was undone !

Environmentally friendly gearbox, no oil pollution to worry about..

Sorry to hear or your problem Ady, it can only get better.

sorry to hear about your diff problem, but on a lighter note your missfire........

it sounds very much like a high tension ignition fault.
also it has already been said, but check your battery and its earths, and all earths on the loom youve fitted, it could be a "flyback" problem or earth loop causing interference , also is there a resistor pack joined to the coil? if so check the connections ect.

It's not the same car.

He bought another one and swapped some of the good parts over.

The original car was blue ;)
