New SL for the weekend.

Hi maybe it was you that creaked a bit on the motorway and what a way to describe a Mercedes as uncouth, cannot agree with you at any price.I have had 3 wives and I would not describe the present version as the best or best at handling, previous models can be very accomodating if you know what I mean.

the more I see the R231 SL, the more I like it.

the interior is beautiful, spacious, yet snug.

A lot of these in Chelsea now, and I still think its a minger, to my mind its lacking a clear design direction. Interior is beautiful though.

Car looks great in white, congrats and enjoy :)

Did you hire it, borrow, etc.?

I tried this at MK and was told it is mercedes policy not to. 10 min test drive doesnt exactly ellaborate whether the car suit your needs or not.

On other hand, my local BMW dealer had no problems with handing the keys to a car, for the extended, weekend long test-drive.

I'm not a fan of the looks, but hey, the opportunity to spend a weekend with one would be great.

I have to pay a token day rate to use it. It wasn't a test drive.

How does the V6 feel to drive power wise?

0-60 is 5.9 sec so seems reasonably quick. Did you think it was powerful enough?

Also heard the 350 sounds nice when the horses are unleashed. What do you think?

Interesting.

Years ago I was looking at a new company car. I said to three dealers that I commuted 200 miles each weekend and needed a car that my back would cope with after that, so I needed a weekend test drive. MB said OK, Lexus dealer congratulated me on a sensible approach, BMW said we don't do that.

After a bit of pressure they gave me a 530d estate with £17k of extras for the weekend. My vote went to the c270AG estate, which was recently launched and felt great. I would still have it if my brother's need had not been greater than mine.

I've experienced the 3.5 litre engine in a few SLs and a C-Class, I'm quite a fan of it, even though it is a little flat in the midrange. It has a nice phat bottom end and killer top end! It revs to 7.5k and it produces a very pleasant sonorous howl whilst doing so.

Yes, I thought it was powerful enough :)
