New SLC prices and specificiations

See the Germans will get a SLC180 1600cc petrol version -----suprisingly the power and torque figures are not bad for such a small engine. 115 kW @5300 and 250Nm 1,200-4,000 rpm torque It's here that the "leicht" part of the SLC may be quite important! Comes in at a very reasonable base price of £26,600 [ euro equivalent] for those of the "hairdresser persuasion" ----- and lets not deny that's an important proportion of the market. ;)

It's also probably lighter than the outgoing V8 and with twin turbos very easily tunable if that's your thing. It would probably be no more than a remap to match the power of the old 55 motor.

The handling will no doubt improve due to less weight dragging the front of the car around.

SLC43 is 1595kg
SLK55 is 1610kg

SLK55 has memory seats as standard, SLC does not. I reckon the weight is roughly the same once you add memory seats to the SLC.

However, SLC43 also has rear LSD as standard which was an expensive £4k option (Performance Pack including upgraded brakes) on the SLK55.

More efficient, more powerful forced induction petrol engines are the way forward these days. It's progress

I couldn't disagree more.

You can jazz it up and call it what you want, but going from a V8 to a blown V6 is not progress. Everyone loves a V8.

If your in the market for a brand new SLK at 40-50K+ or w/e they are, is 5-10mpg going to make a difference? These cars are rarely used as dailies.

What a massive shame. I only just realised about this yesterday, whilst talking to my neighbour, who has a Z4 35i at the mo.

Ultimately, tax regimes are determining engine capacity. Specifically China punitive import duty on engines above 4.0 litre. Combine this with global requirements on emissions and the V8 is now being consigned to history.

Then consider sales, did MB really sell enough SLK55's to warrant another V8? - I'm not sure how many they did actually sell? But the likleyhood is they will sell far more SLC43's.
