Refurbishing the soft-top was on my list of jobs to attend to but the failure of the roof mechanism pushed it to number one priority.

The work was carried out by David of d:class in Chobham Surrey who also took the photos of work in progress. :thumb:

I took advantage to change the colour of the soft-top from black to blue, an OE option at the time of production. :)

Driving the car home through heavy showers along the M3 gave the roof a thorough testing and I am glad to say that it is water-tight. :bannana:

blue and blue is an excellent combination:thumb:
with the grey interior ..perfect

Nice looking fit. Was that an MB Genuine top.......?

Do you mind if I ask how much the top was?

Did you replace the internal liner as well...?

Were there any little bits and pieces that needed to be replaced at the same time, straps, cables, and the half round clamps that hold the liner up above the drivers head - that sort of thing........??

Looks great !

Dave and his boys handywork cannot be underestimated, makes me want to go and get mine done (it needs it!) but the only thing putting me off is that it will stop me ever putting the hardtop back on!....

+1 for with the blue on blue, that looks very nice indeed.

It’s good to see how the hood fits together and how it all works.

Was it done in a day? Or did you have to leave the car and return the following day?

They did a great job on recovering my leather armrest, even posted it back to me.

The cost of the outer blue mohair hood cost £795 plus fitting plus vat.

The frame mechanics had a new control switch and new frame bolt, both of these broke during closing the soft-top earlier this year otherwise, all being checked over and found 100%

Just the outer hood was replaced due to wear. The two inner liners did not need replacing but two half round clamps that hold up the liner at the rear were broken and replaced.

I also had two new alpine dash speakers fitted as the cones on the originals were split.

D:class had my cabriolet for 5 weeks due to several factors one of which was that I went away on holiday. The hood took several weeks to come over from Germany.

very interesting

luckily mine was done by MB 5 years ago

prefer it in black though

im always a bit paranoid about mine not working/getting damaged

I thought about taking it to an MB garage but doubted that they would do something like this but instead would sub-contract the work out. I used d:class as I have seen their work.

My philosophy is to use the soft-top at least once a month so that things don't get seized up but hey ho! my frame still broke.

i was looking at d:class the other day for getting my seats cleaned as they are cracked but thought they wont come to me, they look very expensive & busy!
