I hope to receive my newly reconditioned wheels soon. I presume after the painting they will be lacquered/sealed too (or not ?). Is there also a liquid I can manually apply to them to help preserve their new condition as long as possible?

Thanks.

Poorboys wheel sealant. Excellent stuff, not expensive and easy to apply.

Keeps the wheels looking clean for longer (less brake dust adhesion) and the dust/dirt washes off much easier too :)

Thanks Will. Just what I was looking for.

I did pop in to Halfords the other day, but all I could find were cleaners and some other products I wasn't too sure what they did.

edit: Will, do you think an 8oz pot large enough for 4 15" wheels?

An 8oz pot will last you years, I did all four 17" AMG wheels on the CLK55 inside and out a couple of times, plus another set of AMG wheels, all five wheels from the 2.5-16 and I would estimate that less than a quarter of a jar has been used.

As with any waxes and sealants, a little goes a long way - apply sparingly, let it haze off and then wipe off with soft/microfibre cloths.

Great stuff and good VFM at around £10/12 for a pot :)

Yes, Poorboys is what I used on my diamond-cut Sador wheels (thanks Will) and it is excellent stuff.

As Will said, an 8oz pot will last a long time.

Those wheels will be very well laquered Will. ;)

I used a little Autoglym SRP before applying the Poorboys wax.

When I had my wheels refurbed I used an old fashioned thick wax, Turtle Wax to be exact.

A coouple of coats was applied and I redone again about six months later.

They have kept thier shine and look clean all over without any effort other than a standard weekly wash

Thanks all. Sealant now ordered :) I spent a few pounds more and bought a kit with applicators and what looks like a sponge. I feel like I'm slowly morphing in to a detailer.....heaven forbid!

i use chemical guys stuff on my car. Im very happy with it.

Thanks Guys, I've also got some for mine, why do the brake pads dust the wheels so quickly now, I'm sure they never used to!!!

Is it due to cars being heavier and therefore using the brakes more?

4 months later I have now removed my winter wheels and tyres, cue the snow.

Over the winter period I only cleaned the outside of the wheels once. But today after a quick wash the wheels are still looking in excellent condition. The outside face is almost as good as new, the inside has taken more weathering but still in very good condition. So I'm really please with the PoorBoys wheel sealant. :)

Partially something in the weight argument, but it's also due to metal being used as a filler instead of asbestos.
The metal heats so hot it burns into the lacquer coat. In addition more cars are fitted with alloy wheels so it shows more.
