I'm a full time ebayer, so I've seen it all.... but...
there is much more to come, for instance faking of an endoftransaction email followed by an IPN (instant payment notification by PayPal) email... also, the link in the IPN is far more likely to be trusted...
many of the phishing emails are so badly worded by ill-educated non-native English speakers like this one this morning:
'Dear Sir/Madam, i am interested in purchasing this Listed item .and i want to know the condition of the item. We're ready to send the payment right away,on buyit now price/reserve price for this item, and myclient can only raise a certified check for the mode of payment .and you do not need to worry about the shipping process in addition i am using my shipping company that i have been using for the past 5years if u will not be upset about the shipping company is from africa is a trust and honest shipping company, i am presently in south africa and i will order my my client to issue the payment plus the shipping company fees. please i will also like to askyou if you will be able to cash the cheque on your behalf and immediatly the check is been cashed you'll deduct the sales prices of the item and the remaining should be for the shipment,so kindly send me your full contact info where the check is to be sent to so that we can proceed with this trnsaction asap .Regards.'
I'm sure we could all do better..
Loads of fraud comes from Eastern Europe.. ever thought why???
The link between wealth and hard work doesn't exist like it does here. After the collapse of communism, many became rich overnight through the distribution and privatisation of state assets. Those without political power still had nothing, so they still think there is a 'quick fix' to becoming rich..
That combined with the 'you have, I need' attitude and the misconception that everyone in the West are millionaires and don't have to work for anything means that fraud, and internet fraud is prevalent..
Also, under communism, you got paid very little no matter how hard you worked, so everyone did little work - how hard you worked and how much you were paid were not linked...
As for African fraud, I have no idea of the psychology of Nigerians (where most of African fraud is based)..any ideas?
