Anyway 1k over is an accetable margin. You could do more than this waiting for a service slot at a dealers.

we do frequently , 1k is a weeks miles for us.

I've gone for the service early option - as its precisely what we did before going to the South of France. Basically same situation as yourself - 2,500 miles in France, Service says 3,500 to go.

However I had the car serviced at least a week before travel - to account for any dealer issues (turned out I had a few so a good move).

I'd also add that I had the headlamps converted to LHD, (Bi Xenon) - and they converted them back on return. I can promise they still aren't right - the self leveling adjustment doesn't work (lights dip down and up on turn on) - this is due to be sorted by my pet dealer shortly.

Aggro - but I'd rather know the car had been looked over.

Clarky.

They are meant to do that, it's part of the self diagnostics. Changing from left to right hand drive only involves flicking a small lever within the light housing so that can't really bugger anything up.

I know mate. Unfortunately the dealer seemed to take over 30 minutes to do it. I was pointing out the self leveling effect now doesn't happen ! ie, something has been changed - but I've no idea what. The lights are definately lower.

I'm heading off to France this summer so need to alter the lights for the continent. On my BMW is was a simple flick of the switch before boarding the ferry. Now I hear I have to vist my dealer to have this carried out? I have Bi Xenon is this the reason? I will need to drive in the evening to Portsmouth from Cheshire so it appears I have the option of dazzling drivers here or in France.

Seems a silly user unfriendly way of adjusting a most basic system.

I believe the lever option is the right one. I had mine fixed by another dealer, who quote stated ' Bloke who adjusted your lights must have been blind'. It also took him less than 2 minutes to fix, and then he pointed out the lever.

Its a five minute job. Just take the cover off the electrics, find metallic lever on the radiator side and put to opposite position. Job Done.

Change the oil/filter yourself before you go and get a full service done on return. At least you know the oil is in tip top condition for your trip. The rest can wait...

Well a final update.

Booked car in for service two days after holiday, turned out to be the right move as I will explain.

When I booked it in the speedo said 26013 and assyst said "E Service" in 1799 miles making it 27812.

When I left for holiday the speedo said 26117 and assyst said "E service " at 1721 making it 27838.

During holiday assyst came down quite slow but interestingly on 10th July the speedo said 27562 and assyst said "D service" at 774 miles making it 28336.

Returned yesterday and speedo said 28574 and assyst had just changed from Carry out "D service at 67 miles to read Carry out D service with no mileage".

It is going in tomorrow at 28615 for the "D service" not overdue but SPOT ON. How about that for planning.
