C Class 2012 350 CDI
Hi all, i have just collected an e class 359 cdi with a fair amount of stuff on. So like any bloke i am looking at gadgets. The car has a front facing camera behind the rear view mirror. What is involved in getting this working? I am surprised its there if not usable

thanks

It will be working, auto lights, traffic sign recognition and stuff like that. What are you expecting from it?

I think the Op believe it may be a "night view camera" judging by the thread title but why he would assume it was that and not as you suggest, is a guess. Was there ever a night view option on the E-Class?

I drove last night in the dark and nothing happens. I see nothing on the command screen. What am i supposed to see?

I know it isnt night vision i am not james bond but didnt know what its called.

thanks

Wasn't available on a W211

Is it a camera lens? Or simply a sensor lens for the wipers or auto lights?

You need to get the data card and see what the car was optioned with.

A fair amount of stuff is not sufficient if it does not include the Night View Assist option.

It needs a separate IR camera, different from the one for ILS lights, speed limit assist etc.

See the datacard as suggested above and if it does have night view, you have to switch it on too, it would not block the display all the time at night.

On the W221 the switch for night view assist is next to the headlamp switch. Put the headlights on or even in auto mode and then tap the switch down and it pops up in the cluster on the W221.

I've never driven another car with night view assist so can't help specifically with your model.
