Non gen wings

Howdy all,

I'm going to be getting my bodywork sorted in the not too distant future. I have just had a reasonable quote, but when the front wings get replaced they said it'd be non gen ones (From euro car parts, to keep the cost down for me).

They reckon they fit pretty well - has anyone had a bad experience with them, should I avoid them like the plague?

So long as they fit well and look okay once sprayed, I'm not fussed about genuine parts, just want to check with you guys first ;)

Cheers :D

Hi,
I personnally would only fit gen MB wings but as they are the ones suggesting it, and they have used these wings before, then as long as your happy with the end result do it.
But do make sure they have got the panel gaps right and the wing is fitted correctly around the front panel.

From what I've been told it costs as much in labour to fit the pattern wings as you might have saved in buying them in preference over the genuine ones.

Im afraid the value of a W202 now means that fitting genuine parts is not worth it...

Good non MB ones from Euros will fit well and will be a fraction of the price..

However dont expect them to be as strong.

Of course, how long they last will depend on how well they are painted and rust proofed.

Thanks all for the advice :) I think I'll stick with the non gen wings - I don't see the point in pumping massive amounts of cash into the car - it's 13 years old already!

My only say is that you make sure the bodyshop your getting the work done from will ensure the panels line up 100% with the correct gaps all the way around and that everthing sits flush as this is one of the problems with patent body parts as they dont always sit 100% flush. Also ensure a good rust prevention chemical is used in the process. May also be a suggestion to get the rubbing strips, skirts and handles colour coded as well to give it the Sport appearance, if budget allows ofcourse.

Yup, got that in the quote too ;) Hopefully it'll look spanking once done, just need to source a nice set of alloy's afterwards.

And some facelift rear lights, clear corners & an avantgarde grill

Yup, my list of improvements is long!

Genuine new wings appear on Ebay once in a while. If I were you, I'd hang on and buy one or two off ebay.
