Noob wheel question

Doesn't say on ad what et the wheels are(the 17" ones)
I believe if they are et42 , they will fit OK.
But if et 35 then the fronts will(may) catch.

They are et 35
So for 17inch rims what offset will work with what width rim tyre combo.

For the wheels in the first post to fit properly they should be ET42 .

Have to admit,I recently put 15" amg on the coupe and am much happier with these than the 17". A good compromise of looks and comfort with standard size tyres, the 35 et isn't a problem with these. No expensive rubbing sounds over bumps (it seems front mudflaps are quite valuable now!!)

The more I look at this the more confused I become.

My 95 e300d came on steel rims 6.5j 15 et49/195/65/15 and a set of alloys in the boot so I put them on,they are 7j 15 et41/205/60/15

The rub on the arches a little when cornering.so I need a smaller offset for the same rolling radius. Is this correct.
The custom wheels site (the one that is a sticky in the wheel and tyre section)seems to indicate et35 for 7j 17 et 35 with 205/50/17.
Some of you here are saying the et needs to be 42.
Help me please.

Help is at hand..
All will be explained below:

Wheel-Tire - RIMSnTIRES.com size comparer&sw1=245&ar1=45&bd1=17&rw1=8.0&et1=38&sw2=225&ar2=55&bd2=16&rw2=7.5&et2=42&text1=&text2=

Using the calculator I reckon the et needs to be nearer 50 lol
I do know quite a bit about construction.

Funnily enough putting in the details for the E500 wheels that I have this tells me I'll have no clearance problems,,,,,, but even though the S124 I've tried them on is particularly high at the front, they do catch on the lower trim panel as do the 17 amg copies that are on there at the mo.
Hate to confuse matters but it really does seem that everyone has their own idea about what fits and what doesn't.

Right,further information
I have been wrestling with this in my mind today and decided to remove a wheel from my car.
When I bought it the previous owner had a set of 8 holes (5no)in his garage and after the haggle they came home with me,i assumed he had them for this car so I had them put on.
The fifth wheel I have in my garage is an et 41,but info received seemed to indicate this should not rub and assumed the five wheel were a set, alas no.
The wheels on my car are more like et 20,i cant tell exactly as I cant find an et no on the inside of the rim so measure the backspace ar 122mm approx.,there is a "25" cast into the boss between the nut recess could this refer to offset.
Finally does anyone know what these vehicles these wheels fit? 4 no at et 20/25 ish and one at et41

Thanks.
