Norfolk broads

Hi
I am thinking about going on the Norfolk Broads for a few days in the summer. Any ideas please?

Many thanks

Hire a boat!! You have two choices for a short break, either the northern broads, or the southern broads. The southern broads are a lot more tidal, so a bit of experience in boat handling would be useful. Both are great in their different ways. North is busier than the south and mooring can be a bit of a lottery.

A. Are you sure they are willing?
B. Keep them away from bodies of water during the hours of darkness.

Rise early - get your distances traveled while everyone else is having breakfast etc - moor up early and do your sightseeing and pubbing while everyone else is fighting to find a place to tie up. :)

Refer to the ladies of Norfolk in more respectful terms , then you will be more likely to strike up a pleasant accord with them :)

A boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads opens up a world of timeless beauty, where miles of connecting waterways offer cruising through reed marshes, meadows and woodland. Although all the waterways are interconnected and accessible one from the other, there are five main departure points, Brundall to the west, Beccles and Oulton Broad in the south, Acle in the centre with Hickling and Stalham to its north, and Wroxham and Horning beyond.
Sounds idyllic....

Do it you wont regret it.
I now live smack in the middle of the Broads and have done so now of 15 years. I loved boating so much I now have my own and it gets used every weekend and for main holidays. In fact xmas on the boat is staring tomorrow.

If you want any help or information just get in touch and I will be more than happy to help.

Used to go as a kid, 2 families on one boat, night fishing and lots of beer.

My mum and dad caught the bug and have had four boats on the Thames since, from a 25footer starter upwards.

Who knows you might catch the bug, so be prepared it can get costly

Hey terry hope you and your wife are well mate, lived up that way for a few years and Wroxham is seems to be a popular choice so that's surely worth a check. Enjoy your Christmas break.

Used to holiday there often when I was a kid and we lived down south. Now I live right in the middle of them and stay away because of all the bloody tourists.

I also live on the Broads and actually there's plenty of room even in the high season. Please note that they're paradise in fine weather but depressing when it's cold and wet.

The Broads are better than the Thames for a boating holiday because there are no locks to get stuck in a queue at.

If you're considering hiring on the Broads it's worth having a look at the Norfolk Broads forum (the-norfolk-broads.co.uk) for recommendations. Richardsons at Stalham generally get the highest votes.

Be warned: the Broads are addictive!

We stayed in Stalham for a week this summer. I'd never been there before - really enjoyable and relaxing. Wandered about the North coast and spent a day in Norwich for a bit of retail therapy. Also hired a small motor boat for half a day - that was good: Mrs Orwic insisted on driving that boat the whole time, and now she's talking about what a great idea it would be to buy a boat - eek!

Seriously though, I can definitely recommend it.

With the A11 being dual carriage way soon , from the A14 all the way to Norwich will make it a breeze getting up there. Always hated the queue past the monument

Was officially opened last week but has still got those poxy roundabouts, albeit they're a good excuse to burn some extra fuel :)
