Hi guys,

I'm new here, not new to Mercedes though. My current car, a 1989 300CE owned for 15 years was supplied new by Normand of Bromley, Kent (think they were on Masons Hill).

I'm trying to find someone with an original Normand dealer sticker in the rear window of their car so I can have it copied - I just need a good quality photo and the size of the sticker.

Can anyone help (even if it isn't Bromley) ?

Thanks, John.

I don't remember Mercedes ever being on Masons Hill and I remember from around 1980, when I was 5, until 1996.

There was always and has been since a Ford garage there.

I could be wrong though in the very early years.

It was actually on London Road - the other side of Bromley - Its now a VW Garage. It was last called "Malaya Mercedes Benz" before the change over

Appreciate the replies chaps, many years since I went to Bromley, I just recall that Normand was on a hill...the one they were on just happened to be the wrong side of Bromley !

I recall there was a Renault garage (Parks ?) on the other side (nearly opposite Normand), and in the very distant past (1970s) a BL dealer on Masons Hill - Loxleys of Bromley I recall.

John.

The BL dealer on Masons Hill was not Loxleys if my memory serves - it was another name, but I cannot remember. It's where, in 4th Q 1973, my late father took delivery of his brand new Austin 1800 - and we still had the delivery invoice (and much other paperwork) in about 1998 when, after the death of both my parents, I sold the car to the secretary of the Landcrab Owners Club.

Loxleys were on Bromley Common and there was a dealer called KJ on Masons Hill I believe. My late Father in Law was born (in 1930) and brought up in Bromley, his best friend (my Wife's Godfather) still lives there.

Hi you are probably referring to MALAYA MERCEDES-BENZ.
I bought my first Benz from them in 1998. They are now what is known as
Bromley Mercedes in Beckenham, after Mercedes took over most of the retail outfits. All I have left is my old number plate and perhaps some invoices, but can't promise ,showing their name.

Hi Gene.

No, my 1989 300CE was supplied by Normand Bromley. I have all the paperwork and the original index plates, reason I was asking was to find someone with an original Normand rear window sticker that could be copied...that's sorted now.

The Ford garage on Masons Hill was Bristol Street Motors, the building was Victory House. Large dealership and petrol forecourt when I served my apprenticeship there in the 70s. Tigers Head pub directly opposite.

Loxleys (KJ Motors?) was further along Bromley Common near the Five Bells pub (bit of a theme developing here..)

The BL dealer where Dad got his new 1800 was towards the bottom of Masons Hill on the right as you come down the hill, KJ Motors rings a bell with me but can't be sure. The Ford dealer BSM was just over the top of Masons Hill "Orpington" side IIRC - but they've changed Bromley so much since the 1960's I no longer recognise the place and feel lost trying to drive through there, especially if I use an old back route past Chislehurst Caves to the top of the square close to Bromley North!

Yes, Bromley has changed a lot. Much of it to make way for The Glades shopping centre, so many lovely old houses were flattened.

I don't remember the petrol forecourt at BSM but I remember it always being BSM from the early 80s and the Tigers Head opposite - drank in there a few times in the 90s. I remember seeing the first Escort Cosworth showroom model in 1992 as they had a special room on the end of the showroom for it.

I do remember Loxleys the name but don't really remember it on Bromley Common. Seem to recall it on a few stickers in the rear of cars (sometimes older Jaguars).

I think the Five Bells is where there is now a McDonalds and it was either where that McDonalds is or opposite. Drank in both of them a few times when my GF of the time lived round the back of where that McDonalds is. (Basically near the fire station).

I'm not great at remembering pub names but I remember where they are... probably more useful!

I remember before they built the bypass with those old car parks behind what is now The Glades. Remember a huge car park and market stalls and a giant hall of some sort.

When I lived in Hayes (Kent), I used Normand Bromley to service my W123 200E and later purchased a new W123 230E from them. Normand was sold to a company HMG who later sold to Malaya Bromley. Now I live in Somerset so it was nice to read the previous posts bringing back memories.

I've enjoyed reading the thread, even though I have now found a source for a Normand sticker for my 300CE. Thanks again.

Yeah, that's where I lived from 76 to 96 (behind the library gardens and I could look out my window and see Burton and Deakin).

Then Southlands Road off Bromley Common from 96 to 98.

Small world!

I also lived in Hayes years ago - my parents had the ladies shop Deborah opposite the big church from 1969 to 1973/4, and I commuted to Imperial College from there, initially by bus/train, then in my first car, an Austin A30. After graduation I went to work in Ireland, and parents sold the shop and moved back to Orpington.

This is probably a bit late but I used to work at Normand (Bromley)Ltd it was located on Bromley Hill opposite the entrance to the Bromley Court Hotel we were originally a Citroen dealer then Saab distributor for Kent Surrey and Sussex following that BMW, when BMW was moved to our Gatwick branch we took over Mercedes from our sister garage Sundridge Park Motors. The building was demolished and a new garage built which is currently Beadles VW .

Dear John,

I know this is a long shot, as your original post on the forum is dated 2018.

However, I would like to ask if the Normand Mercedes-Benz window sticker that you located was blue in colour, and triangle in shape.

If my memory serves me correctly, that is how I think I remember seeing them.

My W201 190E was originally supplied by Normand Mayfair, and I would like to install the rear window sticker, together with Tax disc holder, and number plates.

Any assistance will be sincerely appreciated.

I also enclose a picture of the rear window sticker from my W126 Circular sticker of Drayton Continental Ltd. Another sticker that I would like to reproduce.P280710_10.51.jpg

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanking you, and very best wishes.

Yours sincerely
