On Tuesday Richard from Comandonline did a great job coding up my NTG 2.5 that I had recently installed in a 2007 E class estate. He updated the firmware which has allowed me to update the maps to 4.1. He also added the navigation to the cluster and added the gallons remaining and the outside temperature instead of kmh on the main display.
He also warned me that the 4gb sd memory card was probably interfering with the aerial picking up the satalites. He has recommended I try a 2gb sandisk card. Best of all he switched on the rear camera which I had recently fitted, it works really well. Thanks you Richard, great job.

Nice. Got the cable connected to my green fakra input for camera but sill need to connect one up. Which one did you use any pictures of it installed on the car?

Thanks very much looks good. Any issues with the picture? I read that you should use NTSC cameras with the NTG2.5.

I not familiar with the different types of camera, but this does work well and it also displays reversing guide lines, we did try experimenting with enabling guide lines on the star system, but they didn't add anything helpful, as the star didn't think it was an E class and because you can't turn the lines automatically displayed by the camera off.

Very Nice,

How did you attach the camera? Did you just drill a hole in the boot opening trim?

Do you know if the reverse signal will work with a NTG1 on W211?

Many thanks

DME

It wont auto switch to the camera on a NTG1 and not many NTG1 units have the green fakra video input.

R yes, I forgot about that cost saving issue!

Cheers,

I'll have to take a look behind the unit.

I simply removed the plastic 'chrome' piece (screws on the outside and two 10mm nuts from inside) and then removed one of the four screws holding the boot handle in place. I then drilled a hole through the plastic chrome that lined up with the missing screw. The path had to be drilled out slightly, but then the mounting for the camera fitted through nicely. You do need a green fakra input on the back of your unit and for it to be coded to look for the reversing camera. I am not sure if units other than the NTG 2.5 have this.

Thanks for that,

I may just have to live with pressing the video button when I reverse until I upgrade. Thats if I have a green fakra on the headunit, if not its retrofit parking sensors.

1. Install NTG2.5.
2. Connect reverse camera to the green fakra input using fakra to rca converter: Radioa Extension cable Fakra E to RCA/TV jack 50cm on eBay (end time 08-Feb-11 05:53:27 GMT)
3. Have the reverse camera input enabled via STAR.

I have not seen the item you have linked to before, it claims to activate the rear camera input via the OBD port. This item is expensive and from a quick search on google it can only be used once. You dont need it if you get the input activated via STAR.

My camera was only £30 and is automatically activated when reverse is selected. (After it was coded)

Hi harveyn,
Nice job.
May I ask how you routed the cable from the boot to the main body of the car? I am interested for our W245 as I am about to get NTG2.5 fitted soon.
Out of interest how much is the official MB camera?
Thanks, Matt

No camera for the A / B but from speaking about it previously to Alfie he was going to use an ML one on his W169 before he sold it. Price for the ML camera is about £300 he said.

Hi, I ran the cable out of the unused large rubber grommet on the left of the tailgate near the tailgate hinge, (as you look at it). I then ran it down the boot rubber seal (just under it, completly hidden) and then went into the car around the rear light. I ran the cable along the passenger side as low as I could, removing the door cill trims etc to route it. Going over the rear wheel arch was a pain and quite a bit of trim needed to be removed. The 5m cable wasn't quite long enough, so I bought a 2m RCA extension cable for the last bit. Works very well.

Interesting thread, cheers guys, this would be one thing that i would be looking for if i upgraded to NTG2.5, as i would consider it one of the reasons/benefits of upgrading (visibility out the back of my coupe is not great !)

hi . thanks for sharing the info.
