NTG4.5 V14 2016 Europe map update is just about here. (theres just a shortage of the map install disk sets).

So, if your car is about to go out of it's 3 year map update plan, at least go and get the PIN number for the new map from the parts department as that will become chargeable when the car is 3 years old.

Cheers

Richard

Mine runs out in a few weeks. Do they not have to update there and then for warranty?

The map and warranty are nothing to do with each other. If your car is out of its 3 year free map update program then (a) the pin generation system will charge for the pin (b) the dealer will probably charge labour to install the map.

But if you get the pin now, then at least you won't get charged for that !!

So, you can either get the pin, or get your car booked in just before the 3 years and hope they were smart enough to get the latest map set into stock (which i'd expect most would realise)

If you have DAB you also need to report the reception issue (see other threads) before the warranty runs out (so they have to fix it for free when the software fix comes in)

Thanks for this Richard,

Mine's booked in for it's three year service next week, so I'll make a point of contacting them before I go and ask them to update them.

Quick question please if you could help: Do you happen to know if they would actually write anything to the engine ECU whilst servicing the car? Just that I don't want to swap it over unless they're going to write over my current map...

The issue with "next week" is that they may well not have the V14 map in yet - so check that they have ordered it now :-)

They would be highly unlikely to re-flash the engine management unless there was some sort of suggested/mandatory update for some reason. I wouldn't tell them you are running a non-standard map, that will break your warranty on the engine.

Don't forget that it is cheaper to get a MB extended warranty before the car's warranty expires than after (by quite a lot with W164 ML63 (i.e the 6.3 engine) from personal experience), and i'd always run a MB warranty on the big engine cars - to expensive if some engine issue.

Dealer says all the data is now online and they just download it...

It's only got (literally) a few days warranty left on it, so not too bothered about that bit really.

I'll certainly have a word about it Richard, though there's not going to be a lot left on it which the warranty will cover, as I've already arranged for the next set of mods now (a LOT of mods :))

Did anyone get a free update to V14 2016 free from MB under 3 years of free updates?
