I bought a MemoScanner from E-Bay, plugs into OBDII port. Tried it out and it came up with a few error codes. The booklet supplied with it, lists the error codes and what they refer to. The codes I came up with do not match any of the codes in the booklet. The booklet lists all the models covered and they are all petrol models, does anyone know if a diesel would have a different set of error codes and where I could find them?

I've e-mailed the supplier & manufacturer http://uiftech.en.alibaba.com/product/50416009/52194375/Memo_Scanners/Memo_Scanner.html
for help but as they are in the USA & China I'm not sure how much help they will be. Anyone have any ideas about codes?

This scanner is better off in the bin. It will not read all of the codes either.

Blackc55 is right! i got one of them of ebay and thought it must be a good investment, well i changed all the parts that it said and still no improvement, only to find out that some of the parts are still working. thants why its best to get the real deal.

Don't know how these scanners do or behave but here is an example source for codes:

I know you would want to have a good list of codes but would you mind posting examples of what you got and what your manual explains for those?

A504 Thats the codes that come up, none of them are in the booklet or the examples that you posted in your link?

I believe this has been discussed before but what would you recommend for a "real deal"? I assume it isn't SDS, too expensive for private use.

The real deal is.......The one and only.........SDS

Most of the stuff like this from eBay is junk on that i agree 100%.

And i don't buy into EOBD either its just a waste of time but i don't agree that SDS is the one and only.

Don't get me wrong i use them everyday and they are the best of the pack but then thats to be expected from the vehicle manufacturer, if your looking for semi-affordable (for home users) detailed powertrain diagnosis and i really do mean only the powertrain then go for Bosch since they are the OEM for nearly all the parts used the units that they make will have your engine speaking to you in no time at all.

For slightly older cars you have CarSoft that i understand its a DAS knockoff so presumably it should perform most functions but i've never used it myself so can't be sure.

If you fancy a DAS you can rent them from MB (£500ish a month i think), buy a 'grey' unit from overseas or if your minted / fancy a mortgage buy one direct from MB, the Basic will be fine for 99% of all the jobs and is cheaper than its bigger brother.

I am always impressed at the Bosch gear at the trade shows, it must be quite good to be a Bosch service agent, with a guaranteed work flow

To be honest mate I've only ever had a quick mess about with them since DAS has always been available to me but i also was very impressed with its functions.

I have mates who use them all the time on various different brands and they all say the same basically short of going to the manufacturer they are the best units you can buy.

Thanks again to BlackC55 top job in finding the running ongoing fault since april last year. I changed every part possible to find out it may be a coding issue, as its coded to japan 3 for some reason, something a merc stealership did not pick up on when it was with them in april and august last year, so thumbs up for olly and his skill in this area
