Oh Dear, W124 wont start....

ok, Partial success!. Using the 6 year old daughter I have confirmed that whilts the switch works, ut wasnt shutting off the boot light due to some idiot :o refitting it from the inside rather than the outside, and so it not making contact with the boot rim when the lid was shut. Clearly the unit needs to be pushed in from the outside and the wiring then connected from the back. This would also explain whilst on a 24 hour charge the charge only dropped by one notch instead of 4.

Still got to sort out the number plate lights, but with Ade B's pics I now know what I need to do!.
Cheers!

Exactly the same as mine... the switch works but seems to miss the contact plate in the boot cill.. I thought that I had somehow misaligned the boot lid (overfilling it ). Might revisit this at some point - meant to be doing skirtings today...

Well Ive stripped the rubber sleeve / protector off all the wires from spade connector back to well within the boot where the wires then meet up with another huge set of wires and cabling, and I cannot find a single kink or damaged part.

I stripped a little of the plastic coating of the live wires at a point BEFORE they enter the boot hinge and tested them and there is no power. So it appears that the problem is further down the wiring system. Im reluctant to cut back any more at this stage so am pondering what to do.

I suppose I could rig up a wire myself to the rear light clusters to get a result, but I would still be left with the problem of the warning light on the dash remaining on I assume. I cant wire it up to the boot interior light as this will mean the lights will remain on all the time (and more flat battery action!).

What should I do.. I rather feel that I am likely to start causing more problmes than I solve if I start interferring with any more wires!.

Success!!!!!!!

Aaah the sweet smell of success. Took a brave pill and carried on cutting off the protective sheaf (:o if thats the correct term) and a few more inches and BANG, found a completely broken Earth!!. I then tried to see if there was power from the live which was in tact and non, then realised that I had been working with the headlights turned off  so of course no power!. Anyway once lights turned on and broken earth repaired (using one of them little connector things you pinch) it all worked!!. Spent next 30 minutes retaping up all the wires.

Im so proud :D Many Many thanks chaps , yet again you guys come up trumps. Hard to believe how really happy this has made me, and to put the cining on the electrical cake the warning lamp is now no longer showing on from the instrument binnacle!, aah Im just so chuffed.

Cheers
