Oil in the footwell passenger side

yes it can, theres a few how to`s floating about on here try a search.

Had a look today to locate the pilot bush but couldn't find it

Driver side at the front of the gearbox just above the gearbox sump.
You will see a round black multiplug, twist the tag anti-clockwise and the multiplug will come off. Then un-do the 7mm bolt in the middle of the housing, the housing will now pull out.
This housing is the pilot bush mate :thumb:

Does the oil cause a problem with the ecu? I wouldn't have thought it would. I've seen computer motherboards run in oil as a way of cooling them.

I'd be more concerned about the carpets:crazy:

is this the pilot bush

Yes mate, behind that multiplug :thumb:

But it looks bone dry ? when you take that multiplug off ( by twisting that tag anti-clockwise ) if lots of oil comes out then the electrical conductor plate could be faulty.
Check the gearbox oil level first before you do anything mate, just to double check that it has not been overfilled

Hey Justin, how you doing? Some oil should come out of when the plug is removed. How much do you mean a lot? Every time I have removed one of these, on quite a few different 722.6 boxes, some oil always comes out. The amount has been different every time. Nothing considerable but still some ATF pours out to make a nice mess!

hi guys bit confused now that i have found the pilot bush i was thinking there will be oil every where but its bone dry?

Hi mate, yes you will get a small trickle come out. But if you get a large amount come out before you un-do the 7mm bolt inside the pilot bush then the electrical conductor plate which is above the valve body will be faulty.
This is when the gearbox oil travels up the gearbox wiring loom towards the gearbox control unit inside the car :thumb:

But check the gearbox oil level first, as if it is overfilled then that could be the route of the problem

If there was oil leaking around the pilot bush, then the pilot bush itself would be faulty. This would just make a mess under the car, not cause oil to run up the wiring loom :thumb:

So could it still be the pilot bush or not?

Yes it could,

1) Check gearbox oil level to make sure it is not overfilled
2) If ok then take the multiplug out of the pilot bush, if alot of oil comes out then it will need a pilot bush and a conductor plate.
3) If a small amount of oil comes out then try changing just the pilot bush

How do you check the oil level?

Justin, when bush is leaking IT DOES seep oil via the wiring into the footwell, its a common fault.

You will need a MB gearbox oil dipstick mate, once you have one of those. Remove the black plastic plug at the back of the engine bay on top of the gearbox dip stick tube.
Have the car running while you check it. :thumb:

It is not un-heard mate, but if you have that much oil coming out inside the pilot bush then you need to replace the conductor plate aswell mate.

Firstly i will buy the bush then buy a dipstick then will attempt to fix problem

Finally got the pilot bush in today

Has you car got AIR CON?

If so is it still working??
