hey all,

some of you may remember that i was having trouble with my oil sensor in respect that i was not getting a reading when i cycled through on my dash. however, now it seems to be working and is showing "add 2 litres to reach maximum level" so i have put in 0.5 litres and stated the car up... no change, added another 0.5 litres, and still the dash is showing add 2 litres.... i dont understand this. and i do not want to keep adding oil in case of over filling the engine ! any help please?

many thanks

James

Might be an idea to get a good old fashioned dip stick. I think they can be bought on amazon etc. Someone will be along soon to confirm.

Another vote for the old fashioned "analogue optical linear comparator" method ;)

The "add oil" message is notoriously pessimistic. Assuming the sensor is working correctly, adding half the amount indicated is usually sufficient.

Overfilling is bad news, causing frothing of the oil.

Car should be at operating temperature, engine off, ignition on, parked on level surface for over two minutes. I mentioned this in your last post of 25 Feb. As I read your description above, it sounds like you are adding oil, starting the car, checking the oil level. Hope this helps.

i have now added the stated amount of 2 litres .... but my dash is STILL saying to add 2 litres !! does anyone know how much the sump on a c200 would hold ?
