Hello people, just a quick question, I have a c220cdi on 06 plate with 127k on the clock, is it preferred to use 5w40!rather than 5w30 on an engine with higher miles? Due to the oil being slightly higher viscosity, I was given this advice for my wife's Nissan xtrail. Thanks

Although the highish mileage won't necessarily have resulted in significant wear I would still use the 5w40. It's a shame MB cars no longer have an oil pressure gauge to confirm the choice.

This should depend on the average ambient temperature... yet MB dealers used on my car 0W-40, 5W-40, and 5W-30.... so to be honest I don't think it makes a huge difference.

Biggest difference is the price of the three types, 5w40 being the cheapest, I am a bit **** about regular oil changes, on most of my cars, I changed the oil every 4K, but they were mostly tuned cars, whereas the Merc is standard engine wise, at the moment that is. :-)
