image-1912272730.jpg image-3620026466.jpg Went to change my air filters today after 2 years and found them in this state. Am now thinking of changing them every year as my engine so much smoother and quieter now (changed oil, fuel filter & oil filters too). Anyone have any disadvantages of doing this every year. Now need a Star to reset the adaptations as I believe it's important to do so after changing them? How much would the dealer charge to reset them?

Yeah mine were that bad and even though I'd had a service at main dealer and they said there not due I still changed them and seen they were this bad. 30 pounds at my local indy to reset via star.

Ok I'll give my indie a car tomorrow. This is why I like to do my own routine service on my motor coz I do it thoroughly with care unlike some of these dealers with techs on commission on how many cars they can service in a day...

What needs to be reset using STAR for just bog standard service items?
Isn't it just a question of resetting the service indicator now the work has been done?
In which case you can do that without STAR.

Apparently the adaptation values need resetting....though the car can do it itself but it takes longer. The techs on here might have a more accurate reason on why they need resetting

Seems a bit over the top to require a plug in at the dealer to simply change an air filter.
If this is required when new filters are installed how is the management system flexible enough to cope when the filters approach 2 years old and are now clogged etc?
Dealer scaremongering to prevent DIY servicing?

You are probably right as last time I changed them 2yrs ago and then got them reset a month later,I did not notice any difference with engine performance! I might not bother getting them reset this time round and see what happens!

As an experiment, I searched on ebay for OM642 Air filters, then soerted the results in ascending price....

The cheapest result was £5 a pair (!), so for a laugh, I bought them. They were identical to the filters already fitted, and have been on there for nearly a year with no problems.

Who says Mercedes service items are overpriced?

I have changed mine with and without a reset and there is no noticeable difference between it so I don't bother now just change the filters yearly because they always look very messy quite quickly.

Had my air filter adaptation reset yesterday by my local Independant Specialist and the car definately appears to be far quicker on the uptake.

I wish mine were like that. I don't know if being a 2012 makes any difference but mine seems to have different filters which are 70 quid a pair...
That is from euro and a dealer and ebay.

The air intakes and filters are much bigger on the 350 cdi compared to the 320. These V6s suck in a lot of air. You could easily change the filters every 6 months.

Thanks HB.

I would be happy to replace them that often or yearly, but at that price they will have to stay in a bit longer.
