OM642 Green O-Ring replacement instructions?

That's an awesome video. Mr Greedy thanks for the list of parts. Makes life much easier.

I have a load of oil all over my aux belt and I'm almost certain it's from where the metal pipe joins the black resonator.

Might even attempt my self.

I do have a small crack in the bat wing... How worried should I be? I was thinking of using some plastic weld or araldite.

best vid for OM642 probs, bar the turbo inlet seals which are a service item

The large orange seal should sit into the plastic intake ‘batwing’ pipe like this. If you can clean off all the old oil from the crack then araldite might work. Worth a go as the pipe is pretty expensive 1641303377236.jpeg

The tabs need to go in the recess and the seal pushes into a lip in the batwing - clearly visible when you look, it should all be flush, use a smear of oil to help it in.

As in the pics above you have a disaster waiting to happen - oil driping down onto the swirl flap motor, with the crack in the wing you are also going to get fuelling problems, bite the bullet and shell out for a new batwing or clean up and try and seal the crack, but I wouldnt as if bits starts flying off, they are only going one place

I will say that even if you really tighten the clamp down, it won't stay like this for long, it wants to slip away. And if you oven tighten it, you risk cracking it, especially if it's an older car.

Which is why I feel like it's simply best to swap it out for a new one and re-tighten every 6-12 months, especially on my car which has a crack in each of the 'nipple' holes, so eventually cuts into the rubber nipple on the orange seal.

By the way, it's worth doing this yourself as MB Epsom charged my (elderly) dad ~£170 to change this seal on the service before last. The recent service just a month ago, they didn't even mention it even though it looks like J19YTP's at the moment and is visibly weeping a bit. They also left one of the airbuses unclipped (??) and broke one of the plastic holders off the engine cover, plus a few other bizarre things. I told him not to drive it until I sorted it for him...

I had a leak on the intercooler hose that comes out of the resonator and feeds into the intercooler. I changed the seals on both ends. It’s close to the location you mention, so check it out of you can!

That black seal at the end of the silver tube can be tricky as it doesn’t always give you a confidence inspiring pop or feeling that it’s correctly in place. I’d change all the seals you have the ability to change!

That crack in the batwing doesn’t look small to me. I’d Google turbozentrum and buy a silicone hose and dremel off the rest of your hose, or buy a second hand one perhaps? It’s such a silly design…
That's really useful I'll probably get my mechanic to change it tbh.

I don't have one conver and the weather is too unpredictable lol.

I'll deffo check out turbozentrum. I had a heart attack when I saw the price of a new batwing!
Must be the exchange rate with Gotham! 🤣

I'm at a computer now so I can give you the link of the one I purchased: Repair Kit Intake Mercedes Benz CDI OM642 (blue), £ 24.23 (you can also get black)

At the time I didn't realise you had to dremel the original batwing, and mine isn't as bad as yours. From what I can see you have very little to lose!

Yeah the design is a little silly if I'm being honest. Seems a bit trail and error getting the right tightness Vs it cracking off.

My car's not being driven at the moment as I also have an issue with the radiator fan being set to tornado at all times.

Hoping I can sort these few things out and be trouble free for a little while.

That's awful about MB Epsom. I try and use MercLand where possible but it's quite far from me.

No, I just walked into MB Brentford and it’s for 4 turbo seals, 2 oval air intake seals, the green and black o-rings for the intercooler pipes, a clip thing for the engine cover and a clip thing that holds the air box above the battery that channels

Most of it is for things MB have lost or broken or whatever on my dad’s car, the intercooler o-rings are for my car when I clean the EGR pipe (and potentially throttle body), I’ll have to take the intercooler pipe off (again). And three of the big turbo seals are for spares!

These parts are generally cheaper direct than via eBay
