OM642 Green O-Ring replacement instructions?

Had great service today from (LSH) Mercedes Solihull Parts Centre.

Was cheaper than MB Newcastle and MB Edi who are my normal go to.

The guy who served me (Nathan) even printed all the diagrams out for me and highlighted what I bought. Top guy.

They had some very nice cars littered around too. 😁

No problem!

Question for all: that is the one I ordered (in black), but what do they mean in the second picture on the link? 'Does not fit here' - where else would it go? I think it's just nonsense but could be worth double checking? I don't remember seeing that when I ordered. The picture seems to show a batwing that doesn't have holes for the nipples and the whole orange seal is more exposed.

By the way, I cancelled my order once I realised it didn't fit over the intake (which if I'd thought about I'd have realised makes no sense anyway)...

Probably best to give them a call and ask, there must be some insturctions in the package, but again looking at the pic one end of the T piece should be marginally bigger than tother to fir over the intake and turbo inlet repectively unless its just a push and expand job.

Hi

I asked for the instructions but they don't have any.

But they were super helpful and came back with this message and pics.

Thanks for getting in touch. It's pretty easy, all you need is a saw, a screwdriver, and maybe a knife. You cut remove the original intake pipe, and cut off the broken section. Then, just clamp the silicone piece in between the pipe and the turbo. You might need to trim a bit of length off the silicone hose to it doesn't crumple. I've attached some pictures, so it should make more sense

I think it's because it doesn't fit some OM642s...

Please check pictures with notes, does also not fit for Jeep Commander, Mercedes Viano and Mercedes R-class

A0149976445 - Green o-ring seal between the turbo outlet and the long metal pipe under the batwing (the original topic of this thread).
A0279974745 - Black o-ring seal between the end of the long metal pipe under the batwing and connection to the inlet of the resonator.
Very useful data from MrGreedy! To add a bit more.

Equipped with the dimensions and specs of these O rings, generics can be bagged very cheaply from the People's Republic of AliExpress.

At the two ends of the OM642 turbo intercooler pipe:

A0149976445 -- green (fluorine/FKM/Viton/high-temp) O ring --- OD 54mm, ID 47mm, CS 3.5mm
A0279974745
/ A0179973545 -- black (nitrile butadiene rubber/NBR) O ring --- OD 58mm, ID 50mm, CS 4.0mm

Hello guys, i need your advice and help. About month ago my car started to leak oil from green o ring. I replaced it with original but again, also changed aluminum pipe and tried different o ring also more thin. But no progress. Can you give me some advice what maybe reason of this ?

I also think maybe intercooler is clogged and because of this ?

Thank you

Hi,

Does anyone have clear instructions on how to replace this?

My dad's 2010 E350 (265bhp / 7G+) went for a service and this came up as needing changing.

Anyone have clear instructions on how to swap this out?

I assume it's relatively easy, but was just wanting to find some instructions before I go ripping things apart.

Cheers!

Ed
Is here a video how to change.https://youtu.be/Y5DtqwHraz8
Hope it's helpful

If you have anything more than some slight oil vapour coming out of this seal, you might have another issue, especially if the intercooler is getting clogged. If it is more than slight oil vapour, start a new thread and we can help try to identify the problem. Otherwise, it's probably just fitting technique. Some people report they use two of the green o-rings.

here is a picture of leaking. acctualy I also think that there should be a problem with the intercooler because I changed o-ring, aluminum pipe, turbo, so only left intercooler. i think it is impossible not to install o ring by mistake and not correct.

That red seal (which should now be an orange seal) is way out of position! You might have a leak from the red seal.

Look at post #149 and #152 for an idea of how it should fit

Yikes. Thankfully, an easy fix, hopefully nothing has been damaged while running like this!

Thank you for the information, please see attached video. i think in my case in aluminum connection is leaking air, it can be heard in the video also. and the red seal I also bought from Mercedes official center so I have no idea why it is different.

The oil may be coming from the turbo inlet seal which isn’t on correctly. It fits inside the plastic air inlet ‘batwing’ a bit like this and then over the turbo alloy inlet. Clip squeezes the plastic onto the seal and then onto the alloy part. There are little nibs on the seal that line up with cut outs in the plastic part. There are various slightly different types but they all work in the same sort of way. Can be a bit of a fiddle getting it on and the breather pipe (the small one on the side) at the same time but it does all go once lined up!
