One of the last W126 500Se

A nice looking car indeed, although I'd imagine it's actually a late 1991 build first registered in Aug '92 or later to get the K plate (at least that's what mine is).

Only 38 W126's were built in Europe in '92, all of which were 560's and of those only 6 were SE's, the rest being SEL's shipped to the States.

Thought you would notice it!
That one lists as
MERCEDES 500 SE AUTO (21-10-1992)
Trying to build up a register of K reg W126 - and that is the first 500SE on there.Also haven;t found a 300SEL 420SE/SEL
Oddly , i did see advertised the" last 560SEL registered in UK "-but it was a H reg:dk:

I remember seeing that 560 stated as the last to enter the UK - like you I can't believe there isn't a newer one than that.

On a general level, when the W140 came out in early 91 (on a late "H" plate") the backlash from existing W126 owners was fairly immense. As such Mercedes reluctantly carried on building the W126 in significant numbers until about November that year. I believe the last of the '91 build cars (not to be confused with the 38 cars built as a last hurrah in April 92) were all fairly similar in spec. In other words they're all pretty much identical to the one I've got as they weren't built to individual customer orders - that also explains why a number of them hung around the dealerships for a while & ended up on "K" plates. In essence, most of the late W126's are 500SEL's in blue black metallic, with orion grey leather, sun roof, air con, 15 hole alloys, front electric seats with driver memory, cruise, centre console rolltop box, no cat convertor and no air bags. The only regret is that when Mercedes were showering these cars with the catalogue options they didn't go for the heated front seats. That aside I think they got the look just about right & it certainly meant your average Captain of Industry or Megalomaniac dicatator needed to look no further for their chariot of choice.

My June '93 W140 has a very similar plate registered in Dartford - If I remember, before I whisked it across the water the the land of Tax Free and cheap petrol ;)

Dover Customs had a bit of an issue too, since the DVLC hadn't caught up with their paperwork and it wasn't on the computer by the time I was in the queue for the ferry :wallbash:

And He had the cheek to ask why I didn't buy a jag :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Has to be a J reg 560 out there.
MPG afaik earliest W140s - which would be launch /press cars are J reg .I have never seen or heard of a H reg - yet

I own a w126 500SE on a 92 K plate, it has now done 176k miles and slowly rust is creeping in under some of the doors....

Worth catching it before it gets worse then .
