hi

my brother has a vaxhall - we are going to do his discs & pads over xmas but i was hoping for a vauxhall equivalent of Eurocarparts or similar.

Does anyone know of one?

thanks

Me.

Which Vauxhall, model etc? Vented discs?

My bet that Vauxhall spares or motor factor units are so cheap a specialist online supplier is unlikely. Advantage is that most motor factors will carry compatible parts so if you go for a good brand aftermarket part you should be fine. Now if you had a SAAB then buying the Vauxhall equivalent parts might well save you a bit of money!

Its a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 with 15" wheels if that helps.

Do you have a website? PM me details if you want. Its just a basic car so just want to renew like for like etc.

thanks

Derek

Hi Derek, all very cheap but need to know if vented or not.
Cheers.

Derek,

A note of caution - when pushing back the pistons in the calipers to make room for the new pads, clamp off the flexi with a proper flexi-pipe clamp tool, and open the bleed valve to allow the fluid to escape.

Don't whatever you do allow the fluid to be pushed back through the master cylinder to the reservoir on any Vauxhall - the seals in the master cylinder can become damged/flipped, and turn a small cheap job into an expensive and prolonged one. It's so common, it might be fair to call it epidemic!

In fact, once the bleed nipple is open, you may as well flush some new fluid through.

are they interchangable? i'm not sure and i doubt my brother will be able to tell me (he is 300 miles away so i cant look either).

>>are they interchangable?

No, the vented disc is wider, and so, the caliper is wider to allow room for the pads to fit. You'll either end up with no room for the pads, or so much room that the piston drops out of the end of its travel.

If the car has alloys with large enough holes, you'll be able to see the edge of the disc without taking the wheel off.

Good point I've always bought VX batteries from the dealer - cheaper than halfords for a genuine part.

Although I got both Cam and Crank sesnors from LMF for half the price VX charge for just one.

I've always used GSF https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/ at a very reasonable price for my Astra, even for my MB parts they saved me a fortune on standard brembo discs & pads - their own brands are even cheaper & work just as well as OE parts.
