'Gavin Hill, 29, of Frome, previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm.'
'The court was told Hill, a qualified driver with 10 years' experience, was previously of excellent character and his defence accepted the collision happened in "a moment of madness".'
Looking at it impartially, that seems to me like a reasonable sentence for this type of offence.
Or perhaps I should say, it is in line with sentencing in this country.
Keep in mind that for murder you get here 15 to 20 years, and that we very very give the equivalent of the US 'life without parole'. There was thread here some time ago about a 20-years old woman who was the gateway driver at an attempted theft of CDs from a department store in the US, and got life without parole because the store's security guy got ran over and died. This would be 10 years max over here. And Bernard Madoff, for non-violent fraud, got 150 years in the US... again, 10 years max over here, but realisticly more likely 6. Oh, and 13 years to Stephen Lawrence killers because of their young age at the time of the offence? In the US people get life without parole from 16. Good or bad, this is just how we sentence over here....
