Only 17 months for this!! :(

umm, just watched the video, its extremely condemning stuff but I bet the cyclist wound the bus driver off the clock by deliberately blocking both lanes and thats the only bit we do see, bet the cyclists did this for a mile or so, not that the actions of the bus driver can be excused!

You didn't read the story, did you?

It looks like having nudged him off he then immediately stopped the bus, so perhaps it was a moment of madness he regretted straightaway.

I think he pulled out quickly to overtake the anoying cyclist, but lost control when straightening up and pulled across the cyclist further than he had intended.

....except he did plead guilty to the assault?

Moment of madness=yes
Previous provocation=Undoubtedly
Road rage [ both parties]=yes.

To certain extent I think views are coloured by the apparent inequality of the 2 participants in this incident. Had it been 2 drivers in similar saloon cars opinions might have been slightly more divided . Had the bus driver completely lost it he could have driven right over the top of the guy and killed him---- as it was he deliberately side swiped him---a dangerous act indeed but perhaps an indication that it wasn't really attempted murder. One could argue that confronting someone in a 15 ton bus while you are on a cycle is not a particularly sensible thing to do however much you think you are in the right. In a situation involving "being in the right " and the laws of physics--- the laws of physics will win every time- perhaps the cyclist was guilty of ignoring this rather pertinent fact and could have been said to be acting in a reckless manner putting himself in harms way just to make a point In the end the bus driver has lost his job [ its doubtful he will get employed as a bus driver ever again] and gone to jail --the cyclist landed with a broken leg but nobody was killed. I reckon all parties maybe learned a very hard lesson and perhaps this also influenced the final sentencing .:dk:

What worries me is how far society seems to be deteriorating and what things are going to be like in a few years time. Is there a way to reverse this aggressive, vicious culture we seem to be growing?

IMO humans behave much like most other mammals when they are living in overcrowded conditions. I don't believe that we were meant to live in such large communities and it is stressful to be around so many people and cars and congestion.

When I lived in Essex I found road-rage to be fairly common. Where I live now is quite sparsely populated and most people are very courteous and amiable on the roads.

I can't see this situation being reversed, quite the opposite.:(

Interest attitudes to "push bikes" on here. As a push bicycle-ist, i know that many of us are also keen drivers (my friend who was out tonight training with me has a couple of 911's including a new GT3 RS). Plus ride round here and you'll see plenty of £5-£10K push-bikes. Thinking of cyclists as some sort of underclass holding you up is very out of date view.

BTW the cyclist in this clip was completely out of order for what he did to the bus driver before the accident but the bus driver's action is almost inexplicable. The cyclist was lucky to get away with only a broken leg.

Anywhere that brings people in by ferry, airports don't carry immigrants unless they take to the under carriage which ends up with a tragedy as we've seen before.
Ireland should mirror the England model too! I just think we try to solve anyone else's mess yet our own doorstep is being damaged beyond hope, we look after the very people who are not UK citizens and want to come here to blow us up or erase our Christian values

are you trolling?

And this has what to do with a bus driver trying to run a cyclist over?

without meaning to be offensive to a fellow forum member ... may I suggest you buy a bike and cycle around Bristol for the next few weeks ---

Now I am confused - was the bus driver an illegal immigrant of the Atheist persuasion trying to run over a Christian Briton?

:D

To be fair to dvb247, he was answering Barry's question in post 6.

ok - to be fair...

Think I preferred your answer in post 7... I just love the expression "christian values" as we demonstrate a particularly unchristian response... as if that makes it ok

Well we could start by bringing back the belt* , as i believe there is just not enough respect from young people in this country and a good whip round the backside can put anyone in line.

I dont know if its true but watching all these cop shows and the people that are burgling houses ,stealing motors and running over police motorcyclists , get caught and are only sentenced for a few months because they are greiving for their father who died ten years ago? I am no judge but somethings not quite right there.:wallbash:

* a slap on the hand or backside, not battering the s*** out of them. Before anyone starts on child cruelty.

So... We're now blaming johnny foreigner for road rage?

Hilarious!

Easy, bring back our troops from far away countries and put them on border patrol on all UK crossing points, ID everyone in the UK and send back anyone who should not be here or who threatens our law abiding democratic piece loving country.

Yeah!!!

Kill all the immigrants. That should stop a bearded fat Bristol man trying to run over a cyclist in the future.

Bus driver was wrong, but am sure the cyclist did swerve to the right so appeared to have been antagonising the bus driver.

Does not make his actions right though.
As dad used to say two wrongs dont make a right!

On the subject of magistrates and law etc.
I read the court cases in the local paper ( Doncaster Free Press) and the other week the biggest fine/penalty amongst the beatings, muggings, attacks, robberies, theft etc was......................

A man fishing without a license!!
