Only asking....

Maybe, but my view -today- is that if the car is all I expect to be in terms driving dynamics, style and prestige then I will be happy enough. If the only fly in the ointment is the Judder problem which MB are well aware of and may at some point sort it out FOC. Don't fully understand what you mean by ''saving me heartache in the future''?

To clarify, you have been somewhat vocal on the subject before you have taken delivery of your new car, I could imagine that you would be upset if it wasn't all that you think that it should be and that you felt that BM weren't taking your issues seriously.

No offence meant.

None taken. Its just that probably like others on this forum I am waiting to take delivery of a car that would appear to have a ''known characteristic'' eg juddering when cold on full-lock etc.. What I don't know -yet- is how bad that will be on my actual car until I take delivery with the possible exception of testing a demo car with the same wheel spec etc... Some owners with this problem are saying its no big deal, but others are saying the opposite so I am caught in the middle at the moment.

Get the poll going D200 - they are easy to create - let's see what the stats say, but remember to separate GLC from C :thumb:.

Go back with a specific test drive in mind :)

Early so it's cold, ask that they don't warm the car up, and use full lock in forward and reverse. You won't even need to leave the car park and will take 5 mins.

Considering this specific point eg moving the car on full-lock when cold. Should I only experience this with this scenario then I probably won't even think about it as during the summer months it will have gone on holiday. But it seems that other owners are experiencing the problem during other driving conditions and I guess that's my actual concern.

Well, the ML is just fine.....

Forget the issue and enjoy the car when you get it :) I took the wife's A250 for a spin this morning and I can't even remember the judderring that occurred when I pulled out of the parking bay! It did do it, but all things considering, it's a minor problem and I wouldn't swap the car for a golf because of it! :thumb::thumb:

Just phoned my local MB dealer (not the same as supplying dealer) who pretty much said what all the other MB dealers have already said about this ''characteristic'' and interestingly quoted me that the mighty Porsche 911 and Boxster have the same ''characteristic''. Just Googled this and hey ho they do. So for now I am going to forget all about this but will mention it to my dealer and wait and see. If its good enough for a 911 its good enough for a C43, LOL.

So, another failing to be added to the long list of 911 "charisteristics".

I guess owners would find it "even more charming".....

There's none so blind....

Would normally agree but pretty much every motoring journalist who reviews the 911 give it at least 4/5 stars and never ever mention characteristics like this one. I guess the car is so supremely engineered -almost- that this is just a slight irritation which allows the car other privileges when driving.

Motoring journos tend to be young whith young man's viewpoints. We can all put up with (let's say idiosyncratic cars for a 2-hour blast around the country. Living with it everyday is a different matter..

Agreed but in general the Judder problem only occurs on full-lock at slow speeds and how many times does anyone do this during normal daily driving?

Never noticed in mine tbh.
I must admit that I've never noticed it either, having driven lots of 911s old and new.

That's just it, not being one for doughnuts I'm always very light with my right foot when on full-lock. The engineer in me knows that's the time when everything will be working at its limit so needs to be treated with TLC.

I guess this whole debate illustrates just how many car marques have similar problems. I think if you spent any time researching your next car you would probably end up riding a bike as pretty much most cars (especially performance cars) have some sort of ''characteristic'' which will divide opinion. You pays your money, you take your choice.

Those search results are almost comical lol

Just about every forum from every make there :)

It's even coming up on a Toyota Yaris in my google search (check out Ackerman and Judder).

I've only ever seen it happen at about 5mph in reverse at full lock. I havent got to the lock stops at speed yet (nearly!).

As I've said on one of the other threads all three of my previous Mercs have done it usually reversing off the drive at 5mph, and occasionally at full lock moving forward.

My new (Sept 16) C63 has done it pretty much every morning since the weather has been cold and wet but the steering feels absolutely perfect at normal  speeds.

I do think tyres may have some impact here, the Michelin Supersports fitted to the C63 are probably the poorest performing tyres I've had when cold since the Bridgestones on my Honda S2000, they improve once you get some heat into them but the Conti 5Ps I had on the SLK55 and 350Cdi CLS were much better.

If you go back to your dealer and get him to put nearly any model on full lock you'll see the angle that the wheels take up from vertical and as such I can understand why sometimes on full lock you get this effect. I always wonder if this design is to make low speed manoeuvring easier with a smaller turning circle for big cars.

Hi RR,
As you can see from the most recent posts on this -every increasing- Thread, MB/Dealership have contacted a number of owners who have reported this problem. So someone somewhere is starting to take a little bit of notice which could lead to something more tangible in the future. However, I think this is more about PR than anything else as has been said many, many times some cars suffer from this issue and some don't. I guess if it was just at start up on cold days driving off your drive then most people would live with it and enjoy everything else their car has to offer but unfortunately some owners are experiencing this at a severe level in normal daily usage which is unacceptable. I hope when my car eventually arrives I have the former and not the latter experience or better still no problem at all!!
