I guess you need to identify the speed signal cable into the roof control module and disconnect it. Don't hit the roof switch by accident on the motorway though ...

I know you can buy aftermarket modules for the SL and SLK that allow roof operation up to approx. 30 mph (and one-touch / remote open & close). Not aware of anything similar for the CLK though.

Hi , have you done yours any idea which wire i need to cut and fix, there must be some guys on here who have already done it.???, if so pm please

Can you not buy a plugin box anymore to solve this?

Sorry I haven't done it on mine, and don't recall anyone else here doing a DIY job either (although it's probably possible). You need the wiring diagram really.

I've been caught by sudden showers with the roof down in slow (but not stationary) traffic a couple of times with nowhere to pull over ... I may fit a 30 mph module at some point.

doens't it excist for a w124 because I had the same problem like btb500 did...

Hi yes there 3 modules i know of, but none for the clk 1998 to 2003 mine is a 2001, if it was a 2003+ theres a module, this is why i want the mod or fix as in my pug 306 i got caught out a few time in the rain, join the pug forum and some one had done it.. i know of 4 cars that only need the wire snipping and earthing thats it normally, on a merc i dont know there will be some clever person out there who as done it, i had a seperate switch on my pug 306 that i could only press to stop any one catching it and opening roof by accident ,all it was ,was a switch from maplin on door myside, so no problems there, yes the newer modules can be programmed to open upto 30mph and from the remote etc..

dont know about w124, must be though as its only a saftey feature as there would be many claims ..
as you would always get one on the motorway ,, oh whoops , on my clk you have to twist the handle in the middle of the roof ,if im on the motorway im not going to say hey ill just open the roof, that would just be suicidal.. common sence tells you not to..

SL and SLK have tin roofs don't they ( 129 has soft top ) ...

I would have thought that opening a CLK cabrio roof at anything approaching 30 mph would result in it exiting the car quickly and disappearing down the road ( i used to have a CLK 320 cabrio )

All i want it for is incase it rains/snows lol i can slow down and close it without having to stop the engine and then start it again, this is giving your starter an extra turn shortning its like i dont know on a clk dont pick mine up until wednesday night as my garage will be finished until tuesday...

You don't have to stop the engine to put the hood up / down

Are telling the the truth, as when i first test drove my clk ,the guy said turn the engine off, then turn the key just before you start it ,then open the roof...........same when closing.. if thats the case you are a Star and have made my easter even more happier come on wednesday :bannana:

What does your handbook say?

Certainly with my SL you just have to be stationary when raising/lowering the roof. I generally have the engine running.

Yes , just stationary . Engine doesn't have to be turned off ...

Much better to have the engine running - the roof takes a lot of power to operate.

I can confirm that you don't even need to be absolutely stationary, I can open mine while rolling backwards or forwards, it will stop and beep when you go too fast. Perhaps the limit is 5 mph or so.:)

I dont pick my car up until wednesday so no hand book , sorry, is there any meetings this year would like to me all the MB lovers.Regards Simon

so the car knows when you are stop, do you have to put your foot on the brake or something..........

There's a speed signal (which comes from the ABS sensors I think). The roof control module (expensive!) disables the mechanism above a certain (very low) speed.

What size are the speakers in the front doors Clk w208

whoops started new thread...mods please delete message at 09:13pm .Thankyou
