Hi all,

My E320 W210 normally idles around the 80 degree mark, but during recent bout of warm weather crept up over 90 degrees on occasion - particualrly when not moving much in traffic !!!

What is the optimum temperature for this car please and what are acceptable tolerance levels before i should get worried??

Mark

Mine used to sit at 80 degrees in normal use, but when I told my indie about the poor cabin heating in winter he asked what temp she ran at and advised that the thermostat on the 320 cdi's was a weak point. They should run at 90 degrees in normal use - he changed the thermostat and not only did I get better cabin heating but she now runs at 90 degrees.
So a) I wouldn't worry about yours rising to 90, and b) it may be worth changing the thermostat.

Thanks chaps, that sounds like no problem :) Phew !

Might well look at getting new thermostat though - my cabin temp is a bit variable too!

87oC is optimum. If your stat. is working correctly it will stick there no matter where you are driving.

Don't think it was too expensive for the thermostat swap, so it can't be too difficult - my indie does all the work on the old girl as my days of working on cars myself are long gone!
