Over the limit

This may have been posted before, but the drink drive law is just another law that leaves a grey area.

If the law stated that the limit was zero, people would know exactly where they stand. This is the law in certain scandinavian countries I believe.

The legal limit in this country is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. In most of europe it is 28 micrograms - expect us to fall in line.

There are 2 offences in this country;

1. Drive whilst over the prescribed limit (35) - an arbitrary figure.

and

2. Drive whilst unfit through alcohol

The second offence can be committed whist the level of alcohol is well below the "prescribed limit" - the prosecution just have to show that it caused your driving to deteriorate. Requires a different sort of evidence (ie interpretation and opinion) than the arb figure, but just as powerful.

And you are right, some folks always produce alcohol as part of their digestive process, so a zero limit is of no value.

And whats more...

It all depends on you, that day - so how much sleep you have had, exercise, food (and what types) the weather (really!) amongst other things. So a pint might take you over the prescribed limit one day, but a pint and a half might not take you over the following week.

If you are of the generation that thinks it is ok to have a pint with a meal and then drive, you are more antisocial than the kids you are always complaining about

I dont know how long this has been going on, but I rolled off the Ferry in Amsterdam Sunday morning and was immediately breathalysed, so was everyone else! I regularly take the North Sea ferries (dfds, P&O) but this is a first.
Given that these are floating entertainment hotels carrying your car you could be setting yourself up for a sentence unless you are strong willed.

When was she found guilty?

here:

A close friend got stopped and failed the breathalyser a few days ago due in court this week.

and here:

It's definately a fair cop and she has no qualms with that

SGCW124 says that she has no qualms with the fact that she was caught - therefore, she knows the breathalyser reading was probably correct.

There is NO excuse for this behaviour, and people who believe the enjoyment of "oh just 1 more" is more important than keeping sober so you wont mow down the child on the way home from the pub, deserve all they get from the courts.

Thanks Swiss Toni, found this for peoples info!

I think we all should also be aware of the morning after!

There is a morning after pill, but not a morning after pill to flush our blood\alcohol content:o :o

How many of us drive to work the morning after having a good night out on the town?

How many of us know how long the body takes to rid itself of alcohol?
