HI ALL
My first real experiance of driving a merc in the snow, the worst cars ever made for this.ive had bmw, fords, vauxhalls, audi, saab,vw,and not being able to get traction on my drive is a bad state of affairs.the traction control is so good it won't let you move!!!!
who will be the first person to admit theyve pranged there pride and joy

keep up the good work all

Not bumped any car let alone the Merc in the snow.

I have, however, fallen off my bike in the snow doing about 5mph and slid it into my Dad's Merc - does this count?

PS It was a fair while ago, I wouldn't dream of taking the current 2 wheeled love of my life out of the garage in the snow (Italian temprament, doesn't like the cold or the wet!)

Touch wood, close encounters today but nothing major...I DONT need another accident ..just had one b4 Xmas and that cost a bomb......so i will be careful but only God knows...I'll take my chances.

Mrs Kinky had a bump.

But that was 3 years ago.

Lasted 9+ months.

erm ...... I'll get me coat ....

K

P.S. - I'll take the dog for walk whilst I'm out.

Took me 6 1/2 hours today to do my 60 round trip to/from work and saw lots of accidents (and lots of breakdowns and abandoned cars). Very happy to have not been involved in any of them.

I've not pranged the car myself but on Fri 18 October 2002 I was unlucky enough to be involved in a 4 car incident. I wouldn't mind but I was stationary in traffic at the time  Needless to say I was not best pleased. Some idiots should be forced to catch the bus imho.

S.

p.s. I've driven in snow on 4 to 5 occaisons that I can remember and it's not fun, certainly not in an auto/rear wheel drive without chains or winter tyres.

I kinda rolled my car a year ago, search the forum for details and pics

Confession time :o

Wrote off a TR6 in the 70's, nothing in the 80's, then a BMW 5 series in the 90's.

Hmmm...hope this doesn't mean I'm due one :o ;)

Nahh - you got 6 years minimum ... look at the trend.

70s - yes
80s - no
90s - yes ... therefore
00s - no ... and in turn
10s - yes.

So Kinky's top tip don't drive from 2010 to 2020.

had a "wee" bump last sept. there's a thread in the wins/road rage/blah blah section.

Had a rather exbensive encounter with an RSJ just before New Year, still recovering (costs) :(

i nearly had a few crashes (and im in a manual fwd diesel)

ahd a few times when i steered and the car kept going in a straight line

nearly had one today when some moron in a civic slammed ont he breaks and so did i going downhill

gotta love my knackered rover for just in timeness but i did see a few merc drivers that had lost it yesterday (snow is the one time im glad i drive a fwd car)

Not tempting fate this year yet - but all's well;)

But my last bump would be in 1996. All my fault:( Was driving my Esort and foot slipped of the brake as we were coming to a halt. I halted, but only with the help of the back end of a big white tranny van:( Sadly, my left foot was most firmly on the clutch so took the brunt and was broken:( it hurt lots and was in plaster for weeks.

Wrote of my beautiful Dolomite SE when a prat in a BMW ran a red light in front of me. I was going down a big big hill, too fast it has to be said and ploughed straight in to him. No one was hurt:eek: thankfully

So not too bad a record really:D

You never know:D was a fab car:D

It was 10 January 2004 around 15h00 (GMT+2hrs). I was reversing my Merc from the house and as I was doing so the cellphone rang. I didnt notice the electric gate starting to close and it bumped my left hand fender just as I slammed on the accelarator.

The fender had to be replaced at a cost of BWP4,500 (GBP565). Just got the car back last night and fitted the European number plates (from Fancyplates.com) which also happened to arrive yesterday.

I managed to write off a Sierra about 11 years ago by losing the back end in a fairly spectactular manner on a roundabout due to a combination of mud and black ice - managed to hold the slide till I came off the roundabout, at which point I was travelling sideways when I got full traction back, and since my foot was still on the gas to stop me spinning right round, I then shot off head first into a bridge over a underpass!!!! The nose of the car jumped up a couple of feet so all I could see was the sky above me and had the prospect of a 12 foot drop onto the path below. I've always had a bit of a "slippery road" phobia ever since.....

If it makes you guys feel any better, I can tell you that a M3 is a LOT worse in the snow than my old C Classes were - I even managed to burn off the tread on one of my rear tyres trying to get out of my hotel parking space yesterday morning - made the 100 mile trip back home an interesting one!!!!!

I saw an M3 in the snow on Wednesday and thought of you.

PS Spotted you again driving past Buckingham Wednesday morning.

PPS. Bump and curbing free touching wood heavily. Despite sliding backwards on a slight incline with handbrake on and also locking rear wheels up momentarilly with a gentle 3rd to 2nd gear change.
