Yesterday, I dropped Mrs M at the local supermarket and decided to sit in the car while she grabbed a few bits. As I normally do I parked in a spot that was almost devoid of any other parked cars. After a few minutes a lady caught my attention as she attempted several times to park her car next to mine and on my side. For whatever reason? out of the 30+ empty bays surrounding me, she selected the bay next to me, eventually (after about three attempts) parked parallel to me but with obviously not enough room for her or me to exit our cars. Just as I was thinking "she will move again" BANG! she opens her door and clouts my wing mirror hard, and I do mean hard. As I start to wind down my window, she looks at me and says "you are parked to far over on my side". WTF? I am bang in the center of a bay in the middle of fifteen empty bays.

I asked, why she chose to park next to me and not use another of the empty bays? "You parked here, it's a free car park and I can park here".

I said you have hit my car! She responded "You should not have parked so close to mine".

I had to pull forward to get out to look at my car for any damage. Luckily there was none visible (she had clouted the wind mirror).

Why would somebody choose to try and park in spot that is obviously difficult for them to do so, when the car park is empty? Having done so and clouted the car next to you, why then accuse that person of causing the incident?

On the simple point of good manners I could see that there was no argument to have.

You just want to give up. I did wonder if she were related to the shirtless massively overweight bloke who was sat in the doctors waiting room on Friday, eating a Family Bucket of KFC whilst making a noise similar to a Clydesdale Horse walking up a gravel path.

When asked by the receptionist to put on his shirt he replied "I ain't Fíng got one"

It happens all the time. I sometimes think my car must be a moron magnet because they attach themselves to me wherever I park! Bl**dy annoying when she tries to blame you though.

I wonder if you had moved while she was still parking...would she have followed you.

The basic problem is the inability to park between two parallel lines, backed up by complete lack of any common sense. This generally leads to properly parked car in an open space being used as a target by the numpty parking brigade.

Should have dropped her with a right hook! Joke!

I park the furthest away from the supermarket entrance and yes still get the cars being parked next to me when everywhere else is empty.

However, there has been the odd occasion when I have had a similar car parked next to me and there mirrors have been folded up and they have parked in middle. I know that this person has parked there for the same reason as me. So by not leave a space between us also means no ' plonker' would park there potentially damaging both our cars.

I've had the same result with my wife's Civic as well!!!! Sounds silly but folded mirrors is my first observation.

Happened twice to me in the works car park a few weeks ago.

I, and some others who do give a toss about their cars, always take up two spaces meaning our cars have escaped any damage up till now.

I parked in a space next to some plants and toddled into work , another chap with a 911 did the same meaning we were taking up 3 ish spaces between us both, when I came out at 22.00 some titit in a corsa had managed to squeeze between us both and as he drove in front ways it was my drivers door handle that got chipped leaving a bit of his white paint as evidence.

When I asked security who car it was I discovered it was the IT blimp who struggles to get through a house door hence the squeeze to get out of his Corsa.

When I return to work in a few weeks we Will be having a chat.

Always happens to me! I believe also this etiquette should be the same whilst using a wall urinal

The last time this happened was at a public toilet in Northampton town centre. Upon entry there was already a guy peeing at the far end, so I took place the opposite end to him, leaving a gap of five urinals between us

Next thing you know another guy comes in and stands at the urinal beside the first guy, and the first guy went absolutely mad

I laughed straight away and shook my head, why would you do this when you could clearly take position at the urinal dead center?

I think what really gets me about all of this is not so much the actual "poor & thoughtless parking" as the general lack of any kind of consideration or manners for anybody else around them.

How can anybody possibly think that it is acceptable on any level to sit shirtless in a doctors waiting room chomping through a family sized KFC bucket?

I think that to a large degree Trickythemerc is correct. Others must feel that your car is a target to be used in lining up their own car. To then realise that there is absolutely no physical way they can extrude themselves out of the opening that they have left without bashing your car, but carry on doing so anyway, beggars belief. You wonder if there is any point to having a nice car or teaching respect.

Because the world is (depressingly) full of f**ktards :wallbash:

Maybe he saw your parking and thought you were being selfish so decided to bring that fact to your attention in a most obvious way?

there are stupeed and retarded people everywhere
what can you do about it?
they do it wrong they blame you instead!

I once had a women who had parked in a bay in front of me unload her shopping onto the bonnet of my then new escort estate, my Wife who is only 4' 11" ripped into her with such venom it was something to behold .

Damage my car and I will do equal to theirs tbh. You see this all the time, people resting their door on the car next to them. The mind boggles.

S'my right innit!

Should've gone back into the supermarket Bruce.

Bought three packets of condoms, a bottle of squirty mayo and some sellotape.

Blown them up, filled them up and stuck them to her car. Then sat and watched the fun.

My total sympathies. But a brilliant retort from her that left you speechless. So much better than getting into an argument. Go on, you have to admit it: her quick thinking was so much better than her parking abilities. Either that or she was a total nutter!

Sadly I find that too many people treat their own cars as well as others with total disregard.

A lady once did the same to my car while I was sitting in it... she parallel-parked next to me and then opened her door quick and fast smack into mine. When I pointed out the dent, she looked at it, said 'Sorry luv' and harried away to collect her kids who were playing nearby. It just does not register with these people that there's anything wrong with denting or scratching a car (theirs, or someone else's).

On another occasion when this happened, I took some photos, including that of the inside of the offending car (an SUV), showing half-eaten cupcakes everywhere..... gives you some idea what the owner thinks of cars. Some people just don't care.

She'd have cared if you'd used the jack handle on her windscreen.

I know what you mean supermarkets are the pits for parking problems, like you I use 3 different supermarket car parks, and I park in the area with no cars, 20 mins doing some shopping and my car is surrounded,I can only think they see a nice car and think well the owner will not damage my car,I have to admit if I had been you the minute she started to try and park I would have moved a few spaces away, and said I thought you need more room.
