Parktronic Help Please

Seems the fault with mine is intermittant. Parktronic didn't work when driving around this afternoon but was working fine this evening when I moved it on the driveway.

Parktronic fault

My intermittent fault (2004 W211 320cdi) shows up after washing or driving in the rain, as soon as it dries out it is fine again. I am waiting to remove front bumper to have a look at sensors. I believe some posts have intimated that the surface sensor is painted in situ with a colour match.

Do any of you have a fixed tow ball ? As I've found to my cost, if the ball cover is SLIGHTLY off dead centre this can set off the 4 reds. My solution ? - an old tennis ball ! No it doesn't look good - but it works !

Mine has been buggering about recently too. Same as lutters. Started after a recent deluge. Car sits outside, you see. Also noticed it once after pressure washing it.

Seems to be a common theme - in my case, at least - water ingress somewhere, and I too suspect the front sensor wiring connectors.

I had an ongoing issue for ages with my Parktronic- turned out to be THREE duff sensors. Thankfully the garage i bought the car from agreed to pay Merc to swap them all out.

Since getting them done I noticed that first thing in the morning the sensors would sound with full red when reversing. Took me ages to work out that it was on cold start days when Id been using cheapo petrol from the local supermarket (no names!). Changed to more expensive petrol, give it a boot on the gas, put it into reverse and no red light!

Crazy but true...

I had something odd the otherday, I was in a carwash (hand carwash) and the car in front was being jetwashed, the mist from the jetwash was making my front sensors light up with the 2 red ones - so parktronic was being confused by the very fine mist

On the S211 rear, they are very easy as you can access them without removing any panels. Just get on your back and poke your head under the rear bumper.
There will probably be a rubber cover that surrounds the sensor itself. Carefully pull this away.

To remove the sensor itself, you need to carefully prise open the plastic jaws that hold it in place and then gently push the sensor from the outside until it releases from the jaws.
(MB have a special tool for this, but it's not necessary. You can just do it with your fingers.)

The front ones are harder to get to as I believe the centre rail (bumper trim) needs to be removed. It's only clipped into place but care must be taken as it's a delicate part. (And quite dear to replace, for what it is).

Front sensors were acting up on the Vito last night (after heavy rain). Nearside LEDs lighting up as if an object was very close when moving off or braking ... OK when stationary. No 'error' indication, and Parktronic not disabled.

It's due a 1st service shortly so I will get it looked at then.

Parktronic fault

For those members who may look at this older topic i thought i would update this thread.

On my 2004 211 the bumper strips containing 3 sensors each are easily removeable with care and after disconnecting the sensors and spraying the electric connections with a silicon grease the intermittent problem was solved.

John

Same on 07 C Clas Estate.

Just had this begin too:mad:
It actually switches itself off after its done the 4 bar thing and re-engages next time the engine is started.
Its booked in to local dealer for attention but would it not be a warranty issue - - cars not three years old.
Stuart.

My front sensors (nearside) have just started playing up....i waved the hammer at them in a threatening mannor...to no avail.
They seem to activate when i move off and when i break - as if the wiring is loose and moving with the momentum of the car. Anyone know where the sensors connect into the harness so i can have a peek?
