Hello all.
Just joined last week and have just worked how to post a query. I apologise if this is a repeated thread. We have just picked up our first MB from a garage in Broughty Ferry. It was prepared beautifully and so far has been a treat to drive. Being an Avantgarde version there are enough toys to keep my wife, daughter and I occupied. I have however spotted a couple of small issues. The parktronic system does not operate and switches off after a few seconds. The two red lights are appearing in the front and rear indicators but that is all. I cannot get the sensors to trigger. The other issue I have noticed is the SBC Hold system does not appear to operate or in fact be there at all. Tried various tips from some of previous threads but no joy. There are no captions on the computer. Am going to contact the MB dealer who carried out the first 3 years of servicing to see if that system was inhibited during a service. Apart from these minor things the car is stunning and at 97000 miles it still feels tight and pulls like the preverbial express train. I have a 3 month warranty with the car but would assume the likes of parktronic and sbc hold won't be covered. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to MBClub.

One of the parking sensors has failed. The two red indicators are a warning. Have a look to see if there's one with physical damage, as that may give you a clue - they're sensitive even to paint thickness.

Hi and welcome. I believe you have 30 days if you purchased it from a garage for certain things but I'd definitely get the SBC sorted asap

The SBS - you need to press the brake to bring car to standstill, keep foot on but not all way down, then give it another stab. Apologies if you tried this - took me a few goes to master.

Welcome by the way.

6 months actually under the sale of goods act unless defects were pointed out to you at the time of sale - apart from obvious wear and tear items - regardless of "warranties offered" - most warranties are rubbish and do not absolve the dealer from his legal obligations - its not a straightforward area - contact trading standards/CAB as your first point of call if the dealer plays "hard to get".

Cheers

Cheers for the help. Will have a go at the Sbc hold and get back to you. Will also try the garage about parktronic.

I recently remembered to try the SBC hold in mine (shows how much I use it).

I came to a stop and then pushed the pedal in firmly. SBC-H appears in the speedo area and the car is held and the brake lights stay on.

Certainly strange - never had a car which could do that before.

As for the parking sensors, I had an issue whereby they would give up when it rained. I followed a guide on removing them (on another forum), drying them and using dielectric or insulating grease. They occasionally give me jip but a lot better than they were - so it might not be a fault.

Hi,
the technique to set the hold can be quite hard to master until you get used to it, a light dab on the brake sets it and it becomes second nature after a while.
You probably also have SBC-S (stop) on this car. If desired you set the S by putting on the cruise below say 20 mph and the display shows. What it does is applies the brake when you take your foot off the accelerator to slow the car. Can be useful in slow moving stop go traffic and trips out with a "ping" above 30mph. You have to judge the distances accurately to pull up in time, if you use the brake pedal or reset the cruise lever it trips out.
To test the sensors get someone to put the car in D and R with their foot held firmly on the brake for obvious reasons. A good sensor will vibrate when you put your finger over it. Maybe best to get the seller to sort? I don't think you will have a problem with the SBC they either work or not and give you a dash board warning if any issues like "visit a workshop" in large red letters!
Hope you enjoy the car.
Don

I've found using the HOLD feature satisfactorily requires you to press the peddle in firmly but smoothly when you've come to a stop from wherever your foot position is from stopping the car normally.

If you release the lever and then STAB at it, it invariably doesn't activate.

It's more a firm positive push than a Stab much like if you were being towed with no Servo assistance.

Many thanks to all the suggestions. I managed to get the SBC-H caption to illuminate on the dash but it also said "unavailable see owners manual". So I have mastered the push and stab technique but only to prove there is a fault. The garage are having the car back on Saturday to test it. They are not MB dealers but I am fairly sure they have access to the diagnostic kit. So fingers crossed. I did read in another thread about SBC H that there are various micro switches in the gear selector which may be the route cause. Otherwise could it be the SBC itself? I just hope it gets sorted without a bun fight over the warranty. I hate falling out with people and being made to feel a criminal. Cheers. Sam.

same here!

Hi Sam, am in absolutely the same boat having just picked up same plate W211 and same two faults.

Have you had any luck yet fixing them?

Cheers,

Jack

SBC(H) - problem fixed.

Hi guys, my 54 plate 220 AvanteGarde had intermittent SBC(H) failure (SBC(H) unavailable refer to owners handbook etc..) It hadn't worked for 6 months, worked for a few months then failed again.
Solution: Replace the ESM (Electronic Selector Module) or in English - the Gear Selector unit.
I lifted the gear change cover (easily unclips) and made a note of the part number on the plastic cover (you can just see it with the aid of a torch - mine was A2112673124) and went on a 'parts finder' site and ebay to find a unit. Found an identical unit and seller assured it was fully functional so bought it for £39 + postage.
Used photo instructions (fixmymerc.com) and swapped it over in about 45 mins. Worked a treat - SBC(H) now working as it should.
Out of interest I dismantled my gear shift module (which was a pig as the top was stuck together and not screwed), removed the electronics module and took it apart. Unfortunately this is a mass of surface mount processors and components on a double sided PCB - it really is an Electronic Selector Module. Thought I might find a dry joint on a connector but all checked ok with an Ohm meter. Any intermittent dry joint in there would be difficult to find so reluctantly think it will be consigned to the bin.
From a Spare Parts company I did get the following ESM replacement info if it is of any help, however, I can't warrant it is correct
A2112670124 replaced by A2112672324
A2112672324 replaced by A2112672424
A2112672424 replaced by A2112673224
A2112673224 replaced by A2112674424
A2112674424 replaced by A2112675824
I find the SBC(H) feature a real help and very pleased it is back working again and don't believe you need to spend lots of 100s of pounds fixing it should it go wrong.
Mike
