I recently won a W203 nearside dimming mirror for the grand sum of one euro. I am hoping to get it to work by using the wiring out of a drivers side mirror that dims as there isnt a plug for it on the nearside mirror wiring.
Has any one done this mod??
First job is to get the door panel off to see what DCM i have,i might be lucky as i have memory seats.
How do you remove the said door panel??

Great
Did you have any problems fitting it??

Brain dump time.

There seem to be 2 DCM types, and 2 doors (i.e 4 types) and some old versions.

The basic version supports basic non folding mirrors - but I cant remember whether the basic versions support dimming
The other version supports folding, memory etc etc. IE if you have folding or memory, the DCM supports dimmimg and dippoing (again, from memory. probably right)

The DCMs connect to the canbus, and can be coded to think they need to do dimming, dipping (dropping) or folding dependant on the mirror connected.

The mirrors that support dimming mirrors have a different conenctor for the mirror glass to the non dimming one (more connections unsurprisingly)

So, you need a mirror frame/mech that supports dimmimg (to get the extra wires) and the dimming glass

Car may then need coding as-well - depending on what is programmed in the DCM

Door panel. Remove screw and round plastic bit around door lock
Remove mirror quarter panel (unclips from window edge)
Remove covering on the handle you pull when inside car, to reveal screws
Pull off door panel round edges- may be worth buying some extra door panel clips incase some break or look worn - always worth replacing them if they break, or door panel may creak
Pull upward, whilsty holding the rubber groove at the window edge in place so it doesnt come off.

i had no problems, richard is as always correct, he figured why mine kept dipping as it was odd that the drivers side dipped, but he quicky narrowed it down! and its a good feature but seems to have a mind of its own.

grab handle W203

 Cant get the cover off the grab handle,Does it just pull off like on a w202??

Dimming passenger mirror w203

Managed to fit the passenger dimming mirror today by swaping out a loom i had off a drivers dimming one with the correct 4 pin mirror glass plug.
Just waiting for it to get dark to see if it dimms.

Alfie/Richard do you think it might need coding??
Car has memory seats and everything else seems to work.

yippie it works

Yippie:bannana: the passenger mirror dimms without coding.Very many thanks to richard/alfie and malcolm for there advice.
It must be the cheapest mod i,ve done @ 1 euro + post.
Good old fleabay
