Passenger door window Seals

Hello everyone,

I've been following the forum for quite a few months now since recently purchasing my first mercedes, a W208 430CLK. I haven't posted before as being an existing car nut and regular forum user I've found the search function to be so good there's not been a reason to post.

The rubber seal on the passenger side has appeared to drop so that when the door closes, the rubber gets trapped behing the glass causing wind noise. This can be solved by winding down and up the window but I would like to find a more premenant solution.

I've found one similar post with no answers but at least I know its not uncommon for mercedes:

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=12420&highlight=door+rubber+seal

I have tried pushing and shoving but to no avail. I am not sure how to completely remove and refit the rubber which might be worth a shot and my final option it to attack the rubber with either a soldering iron or a knife but this is obviously a last resort.

Any thoughts or advice gratefully accepted.

Cheers,
Jim

Well I'm still seaching and a possible link might be this;

But mine is a 2000 rather than a 2001/2 that looks more likely to have the option.

The only reason I think this is a possibility is my car does occasionaly have the window nudge problem too.

I will try the old IT technicians tricks off opening all the dorrs/windows and reseting the battery :D

You never now your luck.

Ooh, you star, thanks for the reply

I think that's the same problem. My seal doesn't look damaged, just like its been fitted incorrectly but for the life of me I can't fathom how to safely remove the window seal wihout damaging something.

£90 for a new one isn't so bad but if its just a matter of taking out the existing one and refitting it properly then I'll have a go myself.

What tools or technique did you use. I've just been trying to shove the drooped rubber back in but this is not working.

Thanks again for your support.

I had a similar problem ( W208 230K ) and simply removing the door trim and adjusting the window stop sorted it out. Basically my window was going too far up and therefor not sliding under the rubber. Might be worth a try befor spending any money :-). Basically there are two bolts on the window mechanism with "bump stops" just turn the bolt to adjust where the window stops :-)

Thank you Gents,

I'll pray for sun this weekend and have a go. I'll update on any progress.

All the best,
Jim

A single screw driver and a hell of a lot of patience ..

The rubber will 'click' in .. you can feel that it is slotted in properly when it is .. I was looking on the other side to see how it should be

Well I tried removing and refitting the window seal and though it lloks a little better it still has the same problem. I tried to adjust the window but did it by removing the Chrome plate and moving some kind of bump stop. This had little affect and its not surprising as Gareth suggest to try something else (oops) so I'll follow his suggestion next time. One for the bank holiday I think.

Failing that, I'm fullly competent in removing the window seal and could fit a new one if that ultimately turns out to be the problem.

Thanks,
Jim
