PCS De-Cat Pipe For C43

True, but the information is out there, its only a matter of Vosa putting the data into the online MOT system and the system will tell the tester how many cats to look for based on registration number.

The biggest give away is surely a cack encrusted front part of the system, and a gleaming stainless center section!

My understanding from my local garage is that removing the secondary cats and bypassing the resonator should not fail the emissions test.

The MOT system is archaic... they still use dial up modems... worry not you cat deleters..

I too was after one of the PCS pipes, but as you know they are out of them - I know a few people who have had good work done by Longlife at Carshalton, hence why I am going there, and I think they use a higher grade of steel than Powerflow.

However with the bigger brands the quality of work varies massively between branches.

Will do a review once I get it done

R120 - Thanks, and good luck tomorrow! Its a bit of a trek for me, so would also be interested to know how long it takes (i.e. whether they could do it while I wait).

So you keep it and take it to the MOT (like I do with the standard exhaust silencer and full size number plate for my motorcycle MOT). Then the MOT tester can fail you, bill you to replace the cat, re-test, and then re-fit your original parts.
(Of course, if you leave the garage you may not know whether the MOT tester went through this process, but you get your MOT.)

So Longlife phoned me this morning and cancelled as the guy who was going to do it is off ill and was working alone today, which is a real pain in the **** as i have taken the day of work.

Luckily I managed to book it in at Profusion Customs near Heathrow for a Magnaflow job later on today as i cant afford to take more time off work, they have done work on a couple of C43's before and the chap i spoke to seemed to know quite a bit about the cars.

Hopefully the day wont turn out to be a total disaster and i will be able to report back later about a job well done!

So back from Magnaflow.

First off cost £180' and took just over an hour - they cut out the section with the secondary cats and the resonator, and replace this with a Y-Pipe where the cats where going into a 3 inch pipe joining up with the existing backbox - they cut the pipe to the backbox from the resonator just before the existing hanger, so that they wouldn't have to fiddle with that.

I am slightly concerned that because the pipe isn't straight it may rattle, but on the drive back, taking in M25, M4, potholed London roads, and a cobbled mews, it seemed rock solid.

The Welding isn't the prettiest, but they were very thorough in checking it.

Now for the noise - Awesome! A little more flavour at idle, fine on the motorway and pooling about town, but hell unleashed when you drop the hammer. I couldn't stop smiling all the way back home.

This isn't a hard thing to do, and I will reserve decision on the quality of Magnaflows work till I have put a few more miles on it - given it's pretty cheap, I would definitely spend the time to find someone to do it whose work you trust even if it cost a few bob more - I probably rushed into it, but that's the story of my life with cars!

Will try and get a vid up later

Hmm = its going back to Magnaflow tomorrow to have some adjustments done - the new pipe is aprx 3 cms longer than what it replaced, so has pushed the backbox back a bit resulting in a rattle - they were very apologetic when i rang up, so we will see how it turns out post adjustment.

Noise still amazing though!

Yes, the welding is not all that it might be.

Anyway I will give them a chance to sort it, if not off to the guy who builds my motorbike exhausts, not cheap but quality is insane

Thanks ever so much for the write up, hope you got the niggles sorted:doh:
Not a fantastic result for Longlife or Magnaflow, although the latter do at least seem well priced. Will hold out for a PCS pipe or a glowing recommendation for a while longer I think!

Well the good news is its all sorted now - to be fair they were very good about it, and pretty embarrassed.

Basically when they cut out the old system, and moved the silencer back to enable them to remove the resonator, they didn't move it back the couple of cm they needed to get it back in the original position, and measured for the pipe based on where the silencer had shifted too.

They took the whole system off, backbox et al, remeasured the whole thing, test fitted, welded it all up, and now it sits perfectly, pipe dead straight like it should be, and everything in the correct position.

My phone run out of batteries so no pics, but very happy with the end result, and even though the screwed up initially they were very good at sorting it out.

I don't expect perfection for 180 quid, but they were a lot better than some of the cheap outfits I have been to - the facility is nice and neat, very tidy workshop, even their workshop loo was spotless which is always a good sign.

They didn't offer up any rubbish excuse for the muck up, and admitted straight up that they had got it wrong.

My conclusion is that for the price its a good enough job, but if Olly was still doing his pipes I would spend the extra cash without hesitating - very hard to find a decent place round London, lots of cheap guys, and lots of expensive ones who specialise in more race/track orientated stuff, but not much inbetween.

What was the price that Olly was doing his pipes for? I can't remember.

I saw one in the flesh and they are extremely good quality. He showed me it, and let me lift it up to compare the weight. I could lift it with 1 finger, it's certainly a good piece of kit.

The C43 pipe was £350 and the C55 pipe £450.

A very competitive price Olly

Please make them again! :)

If I have 5 takers I will make a batch. To make them one off pushes the price right up!!

I've got a PCS decat and I think it is fanatastic. The custom made ones like R120 has are welded on , I wouldn't fancy trying to drop the exhaust for any work that may need doing...

Just back from PCS after fitment - really, really pleased.

Same as original on trailing throttle/motorway, gargling V8 on startup and more than 1/4 throttle. If you're considering getting it done, I'd go for it while they are still available.

Many thanks to Olly for making up another batch, and it was good to meet you at last. Your C43 gives me "busy pants" :thumb:
