Has anybody fitted or had custom made an exhaust system for their diesel.
My 300D 24 Valve will need some new silencers soon and prices for genuine are very expensive.
I am sure i could get a stainless system made for similar outlay.
I was wondering if there was anything to be gained from using a twin pipe system with both pipes sharing the silencers like they do on the six cylinder petrol BMW's.

Just as on a petrol engine exhaust back pressure will reduce power output in a diesel.
If you go for a bespoke system go for twin pipes as that way the diameter can be kept smaller to reduce noise with no detriment to flow rate. Twin silencers is also better and bespoke high low manifolds as well.

Just be aware that a modified exhaust system may well affect your insurance premium and excess (as always, it varies from company to company). Unlike (say) chipping it's a really obvious mod. if your car is ever inspected by an assessor or engineer, so it's advisable to declare it. I would check out the insurance implcations first as I suspect any performance gain would be pretty small.

My 24V 300D is about one of the slowest cars i've ever owned.:D If my insurance company wanted to increase my premium after fitting a better system then i would take my business elsewhere.

I used to own a TVR Chimaera which started off as a 4.0 litre and finished up being a fire breathing 5.2 litre with bigger brakes.
My insurance company at the time did not increase the premium, which was surprising.:)

probably because they knew it would never go for long enough to be involved in an accident.;)
