Nice cars, a few members on here have owned them (Stats007 being one of them who springs to mind :) )

Not sure on the prices these days - I imagine they'll be amongst the top of the tree of R129 prices bearing in mind that they were very late run out models with a nice specification :)

I quite like the interior now, although it is a bit of a marmite point for some people.

Nice.

I like the Mille Miglia edition (red leather....) or a run-out model in black - is that extra chrome trim around the windows or standard for the panoramic roof?

The Silver Arrows did have extra chrome trim in various places, including the window edge strips and the U shaped cover that lifts up behind the roll bar when the hood goes up/down (all normally black).

As mentioned, the interior is 'Marmite' - I wouldn't have one if you paid me! I don't even like the exterior ... not keen on the wheels at all, and the chrome is too bling IMO. But each to his own!

This one was down at Ollie's (PCS) when my brake discs were being replaced, and I let the owner temporarily fit the Ceginus wheels that were on my R129 then to see if they cured a vibration problem (they did).

The trouble is at that price you're starting to knock on the door of the later model (which IMO is the prettiest SL to date).

That makes this a niche buy for someone that wants this particular model..

Yup all depends how much you like the cosmetics (mechanically it's a standard SL500), and how much you value the 'rarity'.

I can't see the point personally, unlike say a slightly older SL60 which might be around the same price (if you can find one). There you have rarity, the AMG image, and increased performance.

R129 interiors are quite something. At one end of the scale, I find early models horridly out dated, mostly due to some of the colour combos and steering wheels style I suppose as not much else has changed. At the other, late example like Dorian's, I found oozed the luxury you would expect from an SL. The deep carpet alone an object of desire! Doubt items like the carpet changed, but you only see the finer detail if not put off by anything more obvious (like colours you don't like).

Not a bad price given the mileage. Interior really isn't as bad as it first appears to be. Mine got plenty of admiring glances wherever it went!

The wood is very nice, as are the cross-drilled brakes and illuminated door sills! but like Bill says there's not much else mechanically different to the others. The wheels are also a nightmare to refurbish!
