I have purchased an MB phone, phone holder and PSE unit for my CLK. I bought them on e-bay, and they will (hopefully) arrive for the weekend.

Can anyone offer any pointers regarding installation of these units? What I need to know is:

1) What is the D2B sequence for connecting the phone (I already have a D2B CD changer)
2) Does the Comand need any star update to tell it that the phone is present?
3) Does the car 'computer' need any star update to tell it that the phone is present (to make the steering wheel controls and in-dash display work)?
4) Where is the PSE normally mounted? I intend to mount the phone on a pukka MB phone console next to the Comand (thanks Ricky 'Mercman' for the phone console)
5) What fibre optic connectors do I need to get in order to couple the D2B lines?

If anyone has done this installation (surely loads of people must have) please can they PM me with some helpful info.

The links found here should be of some assistance to you. I'm about to do the same with my W202. Have a scanned phone wiring diagram for the W210 which I can email to you if needed as well. Just PM me with your mail address if you would like it.

*** JUST SPLICE INTO THE CD CHANGER D2B LEAD. There is no sequence ***

2) Does the Comand need any star update to tell it that the phone is present?
*** NO, but you may need to performe a system reset from the diagnosis config menu ******

3) Does the car 'computer' need any star update to tell it that the phone is present (to make the steering wheel controls and in-dash display work)?
*** YES, its a 5 minute job by your dealer ***

4) Where is the PSE normally mounted? I intend to mount the phone on a pukka MB phone console next to the Comand (thanks Ricky 'Mercman' for the phone console)

*** By PSE I presume you mean the Black box controller? this can go next to yoru CD changer or behind comand / glove box. ****

5) What fibre optic connectors do I need to get in order to couple the D2B lines?

**** a long one if your PSE goes in the boot or a short one if at the front as above , you need to connet the fibres in series with yoru CD changer Fibre using the fibre splice connector - I posted details how to do this a couple of weeks ago (cant remember which thread just now) *******

You also need a Phone wiring loom. The best one to go for is an E class Loom - it has everything you need incl antena connections

part number is A210 440 1409

you also need a phone holder mounting cup (a black plastic triangle ) this also allows handsfree to work as it contains a small magnet that tells the phone its on a holder. part number A230 823 0060

Dont forget to order a microphone ! the MB one plugs intop the above E class loom. Do not use a standard Nokia mike its a different impedence and wont work properley if at all.

One mike mounting method is to buy one from an S class and mount/glue it inside your RVM - you need to drill a small hole to let the sound in.

S class mike part no. is A 220 810 0764 - 1A26 (in black)

Richards method is very correct and meticulous and is how MB would do the install. I did it differently as I wasnt too fussy about proper mounting brackets forthe controller . It works and the bits you can see are OEM .

hope this helps .

I have purchased the S Class mic and extension cable. If you remove your mirror you will see on the back, the markings for the cut out, for the mic. I filed mine out and fitted the mic as per the facory install. At least it was in my W210.

It is not such a difficult job as the part in a casting and not plastic, anyone handy with a Dremel shold have no problem.

Thanks Steve for the loom part number that was all I was waiting for.

I will let you know how I get on. :p

Paul, please advise the paerts numbers of your MB phone, phone holder and PSE unit a I have bought the wrong part on e-bay A211 820 1451 plug will not fit the loom.

The OEM mounting location is on the left hand side in the boot. I have been advised if you spilce the D2b from the cd changer to the PSE you will need shorter D2b cables.

thanks

Hi Topdown,

The D2B connection are quite easy, remove the connection from the cd player, take off the plug, and fit new seperate plugs to each of the red and white optics, then from the ports left in each plug connect them together with a new optic lead.

The microphone part number I have used is A220 820 17 35 you will have to get this in a colour that matches your car and you will need an extension lead to go with it ( well I did anyway )

I do have a spare holder for the Nokia 6310i and an S class insert for the centre consol if it helps anyone.

I am outraged!!

The five minute job took about 10 minutes (but I did get a drink in the service waiting area. BUT IT COST £47. This is another ridiculous example of MB ripping off their loyal customers.

Sulk sulk sulk sulk

PS does anyone have the part number of the MB OEM phone microphone unit (mirror mount) in orion grey / creamy white?

Paul

I was quoted £200 by a stealership - 2 hours labour - for them to be able to quote me a price to change my fixed phone to a 6310 kit.

Funniest of all, when they carried out my 50k service, it was so expensive that they clearly felt guilty and left me a present in the car - a nice hardback UK city/town centre streetmap. In a car with Comand!

Bless em.
