I used panel adhesive , i think even halfords have it now but any trade bodywork supplier will sell you a maskit gun tube its about £9.00 only use a few pea size amounts though and leave masking tape holding it all in position quite liberally till morning , if you use to much they will never remove with a load of hassle , The clips your talking about shred tyres in my experiance .
