Pointless bureaucracy for its own sake?

Anyone know why aircraft flight heights are always in feet rather than metres? I’ve always assumed that it is because to move from one to the other would be deemed too fraught with danger.
Legacy from when US and UK were leaders in the development of aviation and aircraft.

Just to add to the confusion Russian, North Korean and Chinese Air Traffic Controllers do work in metres.

If you placed one of those 1kg calibrated masses on a weighing scale calibrated in pounds - did the scale show 2.2lbs or 0.22lbs?

Did you see that the definition of mass has changed from the old 1kg lump in Paris? It is now defined in terms of Plank's Constant and the Avogadro constant IIRC.
Didn’t use it for conversion to lbs, the measurement units were in grams. I hadn’t noticed that the physical reference/definition had changed, but I’m not surprised. Same thing has happened to the metre reference which is so many wavelengths of light in a vacuum. Never needed to work down to those levels of accuracy.

GB is not a single nation’s plate.......:dk: I don’t get your point.
In NI most people don't actually care, contrary to your first post in the thread. Those that do either display IRE or NI. NI of course is not legal.

In grams though, most if they wanted it in imperial would use the 1kg:2.2lb relationship to convert to lbs and/or ozs. But that's mass to force (weight). Weighing scales should show lbs and Newtons.

BBC4 doc covered it a few weeks back.

For a gravimetric measuring system, we were quite happy with using grams for our application whilst fully recognising the definitions of force and weight.

If you had had to enter your figures into say, an inertia related calculation?....

The UK country plate: "Pointless bureaucracy or necessary administration?"

Neither. Seems to be a typical result of legislation. That sausage-making process of compromise and "deals."

As per what I’ve already mentioned, grams were fine for what we needed.

Plaster board comes 2440 x 1200. Insulatioin comes as 2400 x 1200.
Plasterboard is 2400x1200

(You can order 2700x1200 directly as a Special Order but minimum order quantity applies and comes at a premium cost.)

The RoI doesn't seem to care about the EU rules as they were anyway - with lots of cars with UK style plates in the RoI but no national marking.

How were 20,000 "kicked out," when the UK has given UK settled status to nearly six million EU refugees?

Millions ran back to their home country during covid19. Thousands transferred into much easier and better paid Covid19 related jobs with "Brexit." It's hard to justify staying doing HGV when there's been a massive growth in local delivery work.

And it was only BP that had a driver shortage, until the Tabloids set fire to consumer demand and got us all to rush to the petrol stations and Remain started crowing.

There are many reasons to be in the EU: open borders, leadership of the EU army etc. But stealing HGV drivers from Poland, ( twice the HGV shortage (126,000), and Germany (60,000 HGV driver shortage) isn't a tangible benefit.

.

* BP, do not employ any fuel tanker drivers, they haven’t for many years. You didn’t know that? So it is/was a shortage of fuel tanker drivers end of.

* Johnson and co. are actively advertising now, in the EU and more widely, for 5000 hgv drivers to come to the UK due to shortages in the fuel and chemical industries. Yet you say there are no shortages, and it’s all a media induced panic. So you know better than the industry and those in Govt, really?

* The UK has given settled status to more than 6 million EU refugees? Even Farage didn’t go that mad with his claims, yours is total unprovable rubbish, invented by you after a few too many eh 😉 oh and the 20,000, have a read up on Patel’s immigration rules. They had to leave….

So we know Brexiters are scrabbling around desperately to try and justify the mess you are visiting upon our country. But please, telling fibs and making wild claims doesn’t help. At least bring some facts to the table next time….

Next stop Christmas…..

So, since I am in the middle of a job in my house I thought I'd double check. And...what I said is what I found.

Of course energy companies don't directly employ HGV drivers. Everyone knows that. Didn't you? BP was the ONLY garage chain that reported that it had a problem with a shortage of drivers to service the just 300 BP garages that it operates. Just 300 garages. (The other 900 "BP" garages are independently operated).

The Road Haulage Association deliberately leaked this problem with the 300 BP owned garages to achieve its objective of importing cheap labour from abroad, rather than paying "more reasonable" salaries to people who work in the UK who need to cover the realistic cost of living in the UK - especially in the South East.

The Energy companies have repeatedly stated that there is NO issue with UK capacity - from oil supplies, through refineries, to petrol and diesel supply depots.

The issue is simply the deliberately created spike in demand which has been "fuelled" by Remainers and Tabloids. An unsustainable spike, because, at the end of the day, the demand for fuel is only as great as the usage of fuel.

Remainers are scrabbling around desperately trying to suggest that this PR spike in demand is directly caused by Brexit. It's weak-minded nonsense, of course, from people who are deliberately ignoring the European shortage of 600,000 HGV drivers across Europe.

Will this blow up in the EU's face? Yes. Coming out of this there's going to be increased scepticism for long distance EU imports. Why buy Cadbury and Nestle products from Poland, biscuits from Italy, Spanish wine, or bottled water from France, Italy and Switzerland?

Next up: Remainers start blaming Brexit for inflation in 2021. Because they're not aware that the streets of Italy, France, and Germany will be full of rioters complaining about exactly post-Covid19 inflation in their own countries.

It's easy to recognise a Remainer who doesn't spend much time out of the UK.

Who supplied the boards and who makes them?

All the standard building suppliers and DIY chains only stock 2400x1200 made by BG & Knauf so I’m curious as to where you managed to get them at that length.

Well said that man!

It is unfortunate that you have to keep explaining it to some who will not listen and cannot comprehend.

Gyproc, supplied by an NI builders supplier.
