Pointless bureaucracy for its own sake?

Just half heard the BBC news on a radio in the background

"...Ministers are being recalled to discuss the fuel shortage..."

What fuel shortage Mr BBC announcer ? Do you not mean to say ".....Shortage of tanker drivers.." ? There is more than enough fuel.

Freudian slip perhaps ..?

Well it’s a shortage if you cannot buy it.

Next up: Energy is cheaper in France and Germany because of Brexit!

Nothing to do with the French depending on Nuclear, the Germans depending on the Russian pipeline, or the Brits being caught out by a fire under the Channel.

Shortly followed by “the UK is Xenophobic, and will suffer because the NHS is totally dependent on EU (refugee) staff.”

Said while 40% of Junior Doctors and 30% of Consultants are of Asian heritage. And as young medical staff from all over the world - not just the 5% in Europe - are desperate to work in the UK.

Now how are we possibly going to be seen as rational and proportionate if you keep using facts? 🤣

Haldane Fisher...I don't think you'll have them in GB.
BG don’t make those sizes though Ciarán. I’m not being argumentative. I’m just interested in how you have 2440 long boards. At first I thought maybe a batch of European unknown brand (hence me asking the brand). But Gyproc boards are a BG product.

...The Road Haulage Association deliberately leaked this problem with the 300 BP owned garages to achieve its objective of importing cheap labour from abroad, rather than paying "more reasonable" salaries to people who work in the UK who need to cover the realistic cost of living in the UK - especially in the South East..

The unions starting a fuel shortage crisis? Never.

My apologies to the moderators. I sort of expected this to get a little political once the Jim Hacker angle had been fully done to death, but I didn't expect it to happen on page one.

Ah well...

Of course energy companies don't directly employ HGV drivers.
“And it was only BP that had a driver short shortage.”

I’ll just leave this here, nothing more to be said really🤔

Reuters coverage, 24th September. Only BP had a problem, which meant that it prioritised some sites over less strategic sites.

And then the Road Hauliers' Association blew it up, creating consumer panic. Their objective: to keep margins up and wages down by importing cheap foreign labour.

Amid UK driver shortage, BP prioritising fuel deliveries to sites with big demand

Sky news reported this morning (Ganesh Rao) is reporting that Poland is short 120000 drivers , France and Germany 40000 each while at the same time Romania has added 50000 drivers.

My guess is the Romanians are driving for a little less money and will (for now) put up with not great conditions and being away from home for long periods of time . But I doubt they will rush over to the UK while they have the option of filling the skills gaps in Poland , France and Germany.

SHORT of 120k? I wonder what percentage of optimum number that is? Seems awfully high. Not saying numbers are incorrect, but I'd love to know how they're derived.

37% shortage from some quick googling....

I am guessing that the Polish lorry drivers are now working in France and Germany - better pay than at home?

(But obviously no longer in the UK)
