Hi. If anyone can help!. My E320cdi has started to get a rich fume smell in the cabin and i have now noticed the engine idling when i start up and also sitting at the lights. I had the pollen filter inside the engine bulkhead replaced 6 months ago on a routine service but would like to know if there is one inside the car that might be causing the problem. Car seems to be choked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think it's those cars with the digital climate control which have extra filters (carbon) inside the car. If yours hasn't got that, then the underbonnet one is all there is. Are you 100% certain that it WAS actually changed at the service? My last car's filter was almost blocked solid, despite having 'full service history'.

When you say rich fume smell.....do you mean a diesel fuel smell or diesel smoke smell....if its a diesel smoke smell it could well be that one of the seals on a diesel injector is giving up, letting exhaust gas into the engine bay, which is then getting into the cabin.

Thanks G. I dont have climate so this rules the cabin filter out...Excellent thanks!

Thanks V.

Thanks V. I have checked the pollen filter and seems ok. I would say more to the diesel fuel smell...also it must be coming from engine bay as i noticed when sitting at the lights with the window half down you get it even stronger. I will now get it checked out.

Thanks Guys!

Take the engine cover off and all will be revealed.
