Potential E53 purchase of MB Approved Used

2019? plenty available from real MB dealers with fsh and min 1 year MB warranty - my pennyworth - Don't go to any other so called mb car dealers - any new tyres fitted should meet MB specs - if not check with MB themselves or walk away - plenty more E classes about -
What’s the different between a real MB dealer and a so called mb car dealer?

Was it definitely the dealer or the previous user? I say 'user' because a number of people returning cars at the end of a pcp use the cheapest replacements that they can get away with to comply with the Ts & CS.

I wouldn't want those tyres but they would meet MB's 'approved used' standard, as others have said. Do C53 use XL rated tyres, what's the normal load rating for them?

Cheap tyres is pretty much the only corner an MB dealer can cut without being in breach of their franchise agreement, because they are bound by it to using only genuine MB parts.

Aren’t people getting bogged down in small details here, if the OP like’s the car and he says it’s coming with 2 years warranty, surely changing a couple of tyres is a minor detail?
A vehicle with no service history can’t be changed , it will never have a full service history, a vehicle with cheap tyres can be rectified in a morning.

I would be looking into why the fronts have worn out and the rears are original, i‘d expect the other way around.

`I suppose that someone may have swapped them.

Wouldn't they be staggered?

No mention of mileage. I just assumed that the rears had been replaced previously.

Yes fitted by MB main dealer and they were keen to highlight the tyres still had the "chalk" marks on the tread as n3ever used. I assume they are XL tyres as that's what's on my E450. Can't confirm if they are "runflat" tyres though

Mileage is circa 16k and I'm told the rears are Yokahama that are OME on a E53. Will need to check if they have been swapped about as noted above but if they have been that wouldn't sit well at all. I would also expect the rears would go first so maybe they have been previously replaced and still meet the part worn criteria

You are possibly reading to much into the tyre situation , anything could have happened to the original front tyres , damaged sidewall or a puncture too close to edge making it non-repairable. They replaced both fronts as having one new and one more than half worn would would look worse to a buyer than two new budget tyres , plus not recommended if the car is 4WD.

Lets be honest , if selling something most profit driven companies would replace a part with the cheapest part available provided it met OEM spec.

At 16k on a reasonably powerful RWD car, I would have expected the rear tyres to have been replaced some time ago.

I would be amazed if the dealer would lose the sale for the sake of two decent tyres. I would pop in and have a friendly chat if he's worried about it.

Could name a dealer (think that ambitious sales manager was the culprit) who lost a sale on a GL a few years ago because would not put on "Continentals" - even though they had agreed to replace all 4 tyres as did not meet approved used standards.

Ironically, Matador are owned by Continental. However, no idea if former are approved for use on AMG cars or MO fitment.

I am in discussion on the potential purchase of a MB Approved 2019 E53 Coupe that the dealer has fitted 2Nr new front tyres to.
The Dealer has used Matador 245/35/20/Y - XL tyres that fall into the "Economy" bracket and not OEM Mercedes approved tyres.
Should the Dealer be using Economy tyres on an high performance approved used car? The tyres are obviously legal tread depth wise but I have my concerns if they are suitable or ditch finders

it’s like raising a red rag to a bull putting matadors on … sorry couldn’t resist. If the rest of the car is perfect with a full service history, have a conversation as to why it’s wearing cheap tyres. Let them explain and take it from there. I personally would buy the car if it’s solid with these tyres than one that missed a service wearing Michelins all round.

Unfortunately, tyres on Approved Used cars do not have to be MO or MOE.

I think the buyer is in a good bargaining position before buying the car, less so after.

Well I never. o_O

The fact that MB may be selling (used) cars with non-MO approved/stamped tyres will add an interesting spin to the "insurance validity and tyre" threads.

Why would the insurance be involved if the tyres are the correct size, speed and load rating ?

Tyre size, load rating and speed rating might be of interest to an insurance company, but not whether the tyre is MO spec.

True, just as the insurer won't care what make of discs and pads you used as long as they were of the correct spec for your car.

It seems to depend on which Matadors are fitted. Some are quite pricey and there are lots of very good subjective reviews. So I think I’d be inclined to try them out first before condemning them.
If they turn out to be ditchfinders you will find out quite quickly and then kick up a fuss!

Always had Goodyears on my C63 but my CLK 280 came with new Matadors. I was going to change them immediately but surprisingly have been quite impressed with the Matadors in both dry and wet so have kept them on.
