potential issues with MB dealer

But i have paid a premium by buying from a MB dealer vs private sale or a non MB dealer have i not? I'm talking about buying from a dealer rather than buying into a 'premium' brand

In the past i have bought the majority of my cars privately and i just accept what i have bought but i also check more closely - lesson learned.

Regarding your final sentence, fair point, i guess i wanted to know if corroded wheels could and should be replaced under warranty after being told, 2 months into ownership, that this has recently changed and they are not. It just seems wrong

The fact that they are corroding is not in question

If you had purchased the car privately then neither issue would be getting sorted. As it is they are, so...?

If you had taken the car in within the 3 year period the Manufacturers warranty would have covered both issues, whereas the aftermarket warranty doesn't cover cosmetic items.

I still don't understand the reason for your thread.

I am cynical with warranty companies. My experience, based on costly learning is that they will work with the dealer and not the customer. Often to the cost of the customer.

If it all gets resolved then that is great. I think the OP is seeking collective opinions and advice in the event that it is not resolved. He does appear to have been caught between rule changes and confusion. So good that he asks the question. ;^)

What is even more frustrating is that a few days after i picked up the car i asked the salesman if they could be replaced under warranty - at this point the car was less than 3 years old - and he said he'd find out but didn't manage to get back to me.

If i'd booked the car in at this point then they would have been replaced under the original manufacturers warranty - at this point i wasn't aware how poor the tier 1 warranty was in this respect (to me, 'Tier 1' indicates the highest level of warranty - maybe it should be renamed Tier 2 to avoid confusion for those of us who don't read the detail behind the T&Cs ;))

You have absolutely no guarantee that the wheels would have been refurbished or replaced had you brought this to the dealers attention within the original warranty period as the corrosion could be caused by damage that was nothing to do with any manufacturing defect.

The approved warranty is not the same level as the original warranty from the manufacturer. There really is no substitute for reading and understanding what it is you are buying and for asking pertinent questions of the dealer.

The wheel problem is cosmetic, hopefully the supplying dealer will offer to repair this as a gesture of goodwill.

If that's your philosophy then I can only assume you don't own anything Apple!
