I'm doing a Diy install of reverse camera and stand alone monitor( as I don't have the command unit which can display the image ), I've installed the camera but not connected yet just ran the wires through and fitted the actual camera so there's no power to it yet , it's just there in the right place ,
Now where is the best place. To take a power feed from for the camera ( actual reverse light wiring , and an appropriate earth ?
The monitor needs a power feed to , where is best for hard wiring this ( I'm not plugging it into cigarette lighter , is it run a feed along from rear Sam ( behind trim in boot and run along to monitor ,and if so is there a certain point on Sam to connect to) or is there somewhere better nearer front ( where monitor is going)
Thanks
Jim

Can't help much on this but I've read on here that it can be connected to the rear SAM, there's two recent threads about wiring in a reversing camera and one of them mentions where it can be wired :thumb:

Do you have any links to it ,,so far I've done no wiring just fitte the camera and ran the lead through to front but there's nothing. Connected up yet

I feel a bit of a plonker now, found the link regarding the rear SAM mention but it was actually for rear parking sensors not rear camera like I thought. Might be on the same element of connection for an actual camera though?

On the iPhone app I can't link threads, here's a screen shot of the parking sensor one though. I'm betting one of those guys will know. I can't find the other reversing can DIY that I definitely DID see though, been scrolling down the app for a while to find it but to no avail. On desktop use the search button function it will get you there :thumb:

I think I would connect the power from the reverse light positive though you may have to fit a relay and the monitor I would take the power from the head unit or if you just wanted the monitor to turn on when reversing I'd take the power from the reverse light switch on the gearbox
